I had heard about the "church of the frescoes" and had wanted to visit it for quite some time. I was afforded that opportunity on a recent trip to West Jefferson, NC. The church is small and has been around for quite some time. The interior of the church was made of Chestnut and was absolutely beautiful. The main attraction... More

Two attractions here...the small wooden church itself and the unique frescoes inside. These are the real things...European style and beautifully rendered Christian images. Free to enter but a few coins are appreciated.

Such a tiny church but wow what a beautiful place! There are beautiful frescoes and several other paintings there with write ups about their artists. It is amazing that this is kept unlocked for visitors.

A must visit, pilgrimage sort of place. Take the time. Listen to the audio. Leave some $ in the box to maintain the frescoes.

What a lovely church and country setting. A must see if you are in West Jefferson. A lot of history surrounds this church and very interesting interior.

I don't have much to add to the other reviews, but if you are an art lover, or religious/spiritual, or just seeking a little peace, do stop and see the frescoes (and definitely listen to the recorded narrative. This parish is now paired with Holy Trinity in Glendale Springs (about 20 miles away), which also has frescoes. The ones in... More
