Takes you back to an older day, great store. So much to see.

It is an old timey store with lots of things to see. We enjoy going and seeing all they have to offer.

Anyone who visits the original Mast General Store in Valle Crucis should go first - to take in the wonderful atmosphere and history, and second - to shop. Forget others complaints about how much something might cost - and you'd be surprised at how reasonable items are - and instead spend most of your visit marveling at the pot-bellied stove... More

A must stop when in NW Carolina. Mixture of old Americana with high tech outdoors wear and candy. Sure some stuff is pricey, but it is worth the experience.

I read online reviews how quaint and nostalgic this store was and was very disappointed that it was commercialized so much. Not at all what I expected. It was a cool store just not the experience I drove this far to see. Other than the old fashioned candy, you can get that stuff a lot of places. Also, the traffic... More

We were anticipating a really interesting old historic building with lots of original items, but found a highly commercialized building full of foreign made goods. I did find some cute woven placemats, but we were unimpressed for most part.

This place is great for a visit to the past. Even though the hours are wrong on the website and on Trip Advisor and the prices are steep. I still love this place and the nostalgia.

We drove to Valle Crucis specifically so I could show my husband the Mast General Store which I had not visited in many years. I knew he would love it. How wrong I was. Gone was the old general store with all the old hardware items and all the other things that made a general storm back in former times.... More

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your visit. We try very hard at the Original Mast Store to continue our heritage of being an old-timey general store and offering items that customers would have found in the early 20th century. Our stock in the front room still includes rakes, shovels, coal hods,... More

I am so glad we stopped by Mast General Store, I just loved seeing all the old time candy, cast iron skillets for sale, interesting jams, sauces, and different kinds of butter, We also stopped at their store in Boone,NC where ,my husband found a jacket on sale, which he needed since I forgot to pack one for him. Stop... More

Don't know where to begin. Step back in time. My parents had a general store during the depression and this is they way my mom described it to me. They have modern items now, but you can see how things operated back "then." Working Post Office in the store. Coffee - 5 cents. Between this and the annex, down the... More
