I've been to Uwharrie several times and have covered all of the trail except for the new northward extension (I need something to look forward to, right?). As a dedicated backpacker (Appalachian Trail thru hiker SOBO '05), this offers a satisfying weekend getaway, and the trail has never been crowded. While most of the trail is easy or moderate, there... More

Love Uwharrie. Have been using the boat ramps, hiking, OHV and horse trails for 15 years. The OHV traffic has gotten completely out of hand with ATVs, jeeps and dirt bikes flying up and down the roads and leaving garbage at every road side camp spot. Had a beer bottle thrown at us and barely missed my friend on the... More

Me and my 6 year old hiked here during November. Still some fall colors left. The hike in itself isn't too tiring and very family friendly. We occasionally saw a couple squirrels. Very tranquil place.

Went for a visit with my daughter and her husband so we could go out in the jeeps. There are plenty of trails for all levels of modifications. No emergency egress routes so remember what goes down must come up. We had to turn around a couple of times. It looks like some nice hiking and camping, so the next... More

This area has some of the best off road trails that I have ridden on. Some are pretty rough and rocky but if you take it easy they are a lot of fun. One disadvantage is that the horseback riders use these same trails so you will meet them

I went out of my way to go here, and I saw a lot of lumber and lumber companies. Downed trees, no wildlife, and trail signs weren't maintained or noticeable. What I don't get is why people in that area would allow lumber people to cut trees in a NATIONAL FOREST. I did not feel as though I was driving... More

A nice national park with loads of hiking and biking trails! If you want a peacefully get away I recommend park. Be sure to look online at the different trails or stop by the ranger station. There is also many different camping areas.

We hiked 4 total miles on the Uwharrie and Dutchman's Creek Trails. The Dutchman's Creek Trail was pretty, with rhododendron in full bloom (on Mother's Day). The trails were easy for our family of 4 (two kids ages 14 and 11). We drove over an hour to get to Uwharrie and had trouble finding the main trail head. We ended... More

We took a afternoon drive to the Uwharrie national forest! It is about 1 1/2 hours from Indian Land SC. The forest had all kinds of off road trails that lead you to nice camping, fishing, and picnic areas that have plenty of parking and seating areas to have a cookout. It seems to surround Badin Lake! Nice place to enjoy... More

I almost hate to write this. This is my office, hiding place, and favorite fishing hole. When I want to get away, but local, it's here. I live an hour north. The Spring and Summer sees me in the woods 2x a month. Mostly, it's clean and quiet unless you are on the 4 wheel trails. There are places where... More
