We went out early to explore all the bays and Beach's . Like most Australian roads in the morning, keep you eyes out for the Roos. This is well worth the look. The beaches were spectacular and lived up to the hype. We were the only ones at whistling rock ,so could actually hear the whistle. $15 bucks for a day pass is worth the cost .

Well worth visiting. The drive through the park is stunning with all the Christmas trees in flower.
The beaches while very windy and the water cold are stunning.
We bought a 5 day pass at the tourist bureau in town for $25 best way to do it otherwise $15 per visit.
If your stopping at the gate to buy a ticket pull over to the side unlike what many did on xmas day and left their vehicle in the driveway to go buy a ticket from the machine then blocking us that already had prepaid tickets from entering the park!
We took our 2WD down onto the begining of lucky bay beach as the sand is very hard.
Alot of cars on the beach and alot, what we felt driving way too fast, kids just weren't looking for cars as they played on the beach and nor should they!
There's a little van on the beach that sells snacks and coffee.
Toilet blocks we used where all well maintained

Cape Le Grand National Park is approximately 50 km from Esperance and can be reached via asphalted roads (there is also the option with 4WD to reach it along the sandy coastal stretch from Wylie Bay to Cape Le Grand Beach). Follow Merivale Rd first, passing by Mullet Lake Nature Reserve (excellent for bird watching), then take Cape Le Grand Rd. In the park there are only 2 roads both asphalted: the Cape Le Grand Rd which leads directly to Cape Le Grand Beach and the Lucky Bay Rd from which all the small roads, all paved, that lead to the individual points of interest begin. The only unpaved stretch is the one that leads to Rossiter Bay, 6 Km which are very corrugated and which can be avoided because this beach is beautiful, but not comparable to the others in the NP. Although there are campgrounds we have chosen to stay in Esperance by coming here daily. Moreover, returning at sunset on the road between the park entrance and Mullet Lake every evening we saw hundreds of kangaroos and a good number of emus. There are not many things to see in the park (Lucky Bay, Hellfire Bay, Thistle Cove, Le Grand Beach, Frenchman Peak and possibly take some of the coastal trails), but since they are mostly very beautiful beaches it is worth spending some time relaxing on the beach, swimming and maybe snorkelling. For this reason at least two days are necessary for the visit even if three could be the best, certainly all very dependent on the weather conditions. The wildlife of this national park is also interesting. We have seen some species including Rosenberg's monitor (Varanus rosenbergi), ornate dragon (Ctenophorus ornatus), wedge-tailed eagle (Aquila audax), brown falcon (Falco berigora), sooty oystercatcher (Haematopus fuliginosus) and Pacific gull (Larus pacificus). A beautiful and easy to visit national park that we recommend to anyone traveling in the Southern part of Western Australia.

We visited here on an overcast day that was to cold and windy for swimming though looking v bc ack it may have been better. The ocean showed off the brilliant colours we were hoping to see and the back drop of the storm were stunning. $15 park entry fee for the car.

There are a few beaches to choose from in this stunning place. We were truly spoiled during our visit where we found one beach entirely deserted, it did require a slightly challenging smooth rock descent, but flip flops fared well in the end. Also no facilities.
Lucky bay was a bit seaweedy when we went, and allows 4WD beach access so not as epic as expected. We came once to find no kangaroos for our ultimate Aussie picture, but a quick stop back there towards the end of the day didn’t disappoint.
Hellfire bay was our returning visit pick as it had super easy access, facilities (sort of) and even a bbq area.
Don’t be fooled by the dirt road access only beach, it’s very much only good if you’re in a 4WD, and even then wasn’t the best.
Overall be prepared here, great in a 4WD, not many facilities around the park so bring your food and water and be ready to take it all in!

What an amazing beach. The photos don’t do it justice and they are incredibly beautiful so that tells you something.
The only thing that spoiled it on one day was a noisey back packer group in three camper vans and a car driving up and down the beach with a drone, girls hanging out of the doors and the guys beeping their horns and all yelling and destroying the serenity.
Thank goodness this is not the norm and most people are respectful of the gorgeous surroundings and other people trying to enjoy it.
The water is so clear and refreshingly cool, it is a must visit in a Esperance.

Firstly let me say that if you are going to Esperance and surrounding areas get yourself a Park Pass for a year.We ended up in 9 National Parks and paid each time rather than pay the one off fee to do all parks.Capr Le Grand National park was so much more than we had imagined. Our drive in took us straight to Lucky Bay which is stunning. We did Rossiter which wasnt so great because of the seaweed,Hellfire was surblime in colours and beauty and my husband had a swim.We didnt climb Frenchmans Peak but saw many people of varying fitnesses that had managed to do it.Maybe do it in the cooler hours.Cape Le Grand itself was beautiful too with a simple camping area and if the tides are right with a 4x4 you can follow the beach back to Wylies near the boat Harbour in town but it is 22kms.We saw snakes, lizards and stunning wildflowers.Im sure in the right season too you would see many whales. You only need a 2x2 to access all beaches

First time to this National Park and a day entry for a sedan vehicle is $15. The amenities are good with toilets and picnic tables. Bitumen roads and carpacks. Definitely should be on your list to visit.

This National Park is a treat. Plenty of beaches to go park yourself at and walk trails throughout. Could easily spend a couple of days out here. Would recommend the 5 day park pass for $25

It was our first time to visit Albany and this was on the checklist. You need to pay for entrance per vehicle. It was spectacular comparing to my local beach. Sand is firm, so i believe 4wd won't easily get bogged. Though the water is cold, it is clear and shallow. Only bad experience is that rude old man ranger. I work in aged care and I always love the elderly but I cant stand that guy. Need to learn how to say "please" and speak nicely to visitors especially if they make minor mistakes.

Hi! How're you doing? I'd like to know what are the best month to visit it. Thanks!
Written 4 February 2019
Definitely summer months but early in the morning as it can get windy and blistering hot. I would definitely take a sun shade of some description and lots of sun act. White sand and sun are a perfect combination for severe sunburn.. trust me I found out the hard way...
Would also be a great place to visit in the milder months but on a sunny but no wind day.

Just wondering if you can 4WD along the coast from Lucky Bay to Wharton Beach?
Written 24 April 2018
As far as I know you can't. You can get back to Esperance if the tide is right though.

Where can we go 4WD on the beach in our own vehicle and camp?
Written 20 April 2016
Hi,
When we were at Lucky Bay last month, there were 4WDs on the beach. Camping, I believe, is definitely in prescribed areas which are currently being extended. Ask at the Park entrance for guidance or ask the ranger.

We would like to camp at CLGNP (or Lucky Bay?) for a week or two over the Xmas/New Year period this year. We will be coming from our home in Denmark (west of Albany). I understand there are only 15 campsites available on a first come first served basis. We wouldn't like to drive all this way and find the camp full. We have some flexibility around dates. If we arrive on say 20th December, would be likely to find a spot? And if the park is full, are there other campsites in the vicinity that you would recommend?
Written 2 May 2015
I'm sure there must be a way of pre-booking a campsite, but I would suggest you contact the National Park to establish this. When we were there last month, there was a notice to advise that the number of camp pitches was being extended to something around 73, but I don't know the timeframe. Last month we drove from Denmark to Albany, then on to Esperance - the total journey time was around 7 hours (keeping to your speed limits).

Yes there is. Recommended to go in the morning to get a good place for camping. There are designated camping spots in Lucky Bay (the best place in Le Grand) and at other areas too. Camping fees will apply.

You definitely don't need a 4WD to get there and around the other beaches nearby. A small bus/van could take all of you easily.
