Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Installed in 2014, The Whale Tail is situated on the Esplanade and represents the Southern Right whales that travel in the area in winter. Local artists Cindy Poole and Jason Wooldridge designed the artwork with many tributes tucked into the design.

I especially loved the integration of coloured glass panels into the design and the way the sun light plays with the colours throughout the day. I saw it late one afternoon and the shadows that were caste were awesome – although I could not manage to capture them effectively in photos.

This is a stunning and majestic addition to the public artworks in Esperance and is well worth a visit to see. The superb lawned areas around the work add to the attractiveness of the location.

Return? Yes armed with a better camera to catch all the nuances of the light and the tail.

I'm a fan of public art at the best of times so I may be a bit biased. The whale tail is a lovely piece of art taking pride of place on the Esperance foreshore. It's a large piece and stands out - as one would expect of a whale's tail. Well worth taking a close look rather than just driving past.

Beautiful sculpture which then followed with a visit to the artists studio in Pink Lake. Absolutely stunning!

This is an interesting piece of art, and it does enhance the foreshore area. But would I make a special trip to see it? No. We just took a walk along the foreshore and passed right by it. There's lots of nice things along the foreshore, and this is just one of many. They've done a good job of including things like this, to add flavour and atmosphere to the foreshore, but I wouldn't consider it a separate tourist attraction.

I found it almost comical. Sorry, it is not a good thing, they call sculpture. Public money should not be spent on these things.

We ended up in Esperance in foul weather (gale force winds and rain) and with two dogs which limited the options available as it rules out all the national parks. This walk was a lovely walk which meanders along the foreshore and was a highlight for us. There are various stops along the way, including the whale tail and the seal structure at the roundabout. Nice way to start the day.

Lovely piece of art on the foreshore. We didn't make it to the Cindy Poole gallery but this piece of art by Cindy is stunning and in a great location

The designer of the whale tail deserves a pat on the back. It is truly lovely. Set on the Esplanade it really sets it off

A really cool piece of street art which captures the old whaling history of Esperance & the region. A combo of Timber, Metal & Coloured Glass with the Tail waving towards the water. A good spot also to stop & enjoy the view.
