We stayed at Alpine Retreat - great location and price and travelled by VLine to Mansfield on family ticket and then Mansfield bus to Mount Buller definitely the cheapest way to get there without a car

Awesome mountain, so beautiful and a good place to learn to snowboard. Had an amazing instructor named Julian, he was so patient and made sure that everyone learned, not just the ones who picked it up quickly. Would definitely recommend.
