Hadn't been for years and wanted to rekindle my interest - it's a wonderful old building and grounds but had breakfast first and I lost any "appetite" for staying - like the past reviewers, think there should be some concession for diners

Just wanted a quick stroll after eating breakfast at the cafe. Turns out they want $14 per person. I get that money is required for up keep, a small donation would be reasonable if you weren't dining on the grounds already, I've been previously and it's beautiful! I just think it's a bit cheeky to ask $14 and to ask... More

Beautiful old buildings and grounds. Was a little disappointed that we couldn't get into the great hall as there was a wedding on so I'd suggest ringing before hand to check availability. Little old chapel was delightful. Grounds have some peacocks roaming around. Thought the cafe was a little overpriced.

Not far from Melbourne is a unique old estate that dates back to the 1930's - set up as an artists colony but built as a replica of some strange 19th century dream, it is very impressive in a solid Victorian sort of way. The great hall is lovely and the chapel is the perfect place for a funeral -... More

An interesting artists colony with many workshops and artifacts to look at. Montsalvat includes a good restaurant that is open most of the day. Some of the guests may be snooty as I was given a few looks of disdain by snobby arty types. Worth a visit to this historically famous artist colony.

So much to do at this venue. Art gallery with contemporary pieces, wonderful buildings to explore and beautiful grounds to wander in. I enjoy eating at the onsite restaurant (excellent standard), then having a wander in the grounds. A really nice afternoon out. Be sure to book the restaurant as it is small, cosy and popular.

I was actually impressed with the gardens and the galleries it's lovely to watch artists showing you their craft and art and their wonderful talents. On a beautiful day nice to have a little picnic basket and sit around the grounds and watch the beautiful peacocks walking around. They do have special events also they do weddings there I'm sure... A fabulous interesting place to visit. From Art festivals to the Winter Solstice festival. It's best to look up the website for 'What's On'
