Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Penfold a giant that live off its name. Tasted 5 of their wines with price starting from $50 up to $130, none of them was satisfying and tasted like a $16 bottle from BWS. The only decent one was the $130 that I would have pay max $20/bottle.
Looks like you pay just for the name and that it is a disgrace, especially when you actually can go in others wineries around and with $35 buy excellent wines 10 times better than theirs.
A suggestions from a commoner leave Penfolds to the nobility, pretty sure that their even more expensive wines are amazing, just not affordable for the normal people, and plenty of other value for money option around.

It once felt like you were drinking with friends. Now all the staff do is talk about what the wine means to them.
Do not bother paying for the $100 tasting unless you only want a thimble full of each.
Also a lot of their wine tastes mass produced.
We went a year ago and when you bought wine the tasting fee was waived. I think if you buy their most expensive wine there should be an exception to the rule.
Lastly, Dan Murphy’s sell most of their wine cheaper!

We visited the new Cellar door. Absolutely terrible. You'd never guess they sold extraordinarily expensive wine as it looked like a corporate function room or RSL inside. Way too much merchandise for sale. Very Tacky. Would not recommend when there are so many other places to go.

Decided to swing by the Barossa. We went of Easter Friday so not much open but we found Penfolds. Little odd as it is in a shopping complex type area. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Tasting menu was $10 per person but waived if purchase was made. Delicious wines, we purchased a couple of bottles to take home.

Very very nice and competent personnel took us through a wine and chocolate pairing.

Fun to be at Penfolds but
- boring location/room.
- tasting 3 wines and small pieces of chocolate for $40 is too expensive compared to what you get on other cellar doors

They are pushing the corporate brand too far.

Went to another tasting in the area and got 8 great wines at a fabulous location for $20 and when we bought one bottle for $45 they even dropped charges for the tasting

It took us a while to find this as this is a tasting room experience at not a true cellar door but it was worth it. We had a very knowledgeable and passionate person serving us who not only have very generous pourings of the more expensive wines but knew all about them. We will definitely go again when in the area. Thanks Penfolds.

Hi Helen, Thank you for your visit. Perhaps next time you might like to visit our flagship cellar door at Magill Estate in Adelaide for a more immersive experience into our history. We're glad you enjoyed your tasting. Kind Regards The Penfolds Team

It's been over 15 years since our last visit but it hasn't changed. The oldest and most premium wines in my home cellar are still Penfolds. The museum vintages available are awesome. The tasting we did was awesome. Although pricey, I put up the cash for a taste of 2019 Quantum and 2018 Superblend B for the experience. Both were excellent and still a bit pricey for me but now I can appreciate why. Joined the Kalimna Club which is handy because you can choose what you want when so many wine clubs limit your choices. The metal membership card was a very nice touch too...

Walked in for a wine tasting and was definitely happy with the wine list for tasting. They have the spitbucket too so you dont have to get drunk easily. Otherwise you wont be able to get to the Shiraz selection which was superb. For the money I paid, definitelt worth the wine selection. For an extra $ you can taste the legendary 'Grange'. The staff were super friendly and helpful. They have good facts and trivia for each wine you are tasting. They definitely love their wines. I would recommend to anyone. Must try esp if you are a big Penfolds fan like me.

We are wine tasting newbies and were a little intimidated at first of a "Penfolds" tasting, but Gemma was so friendly and made us feel very comfortable for our wine tasting. She was very informative about the wines, the vineyards and the history of the brand and made our experience very enjoyable. (Oh, and the wine was lovely of course!) Highly recommend.

Obviously Penfolds wine speaks for itself however Vicki totally took our experience to the next level. Upon arrival the space lacked the ambience of most wineries in the Barossa and dare I say, looked a little clinical. However, this apprehension washed away when Vicki started our tasting experience. Vicki went above and beyond, sharing stories and knowledge. She is a brilliant asset to the Penfolds experience!
