About
Elderton Wines is a small, family-owned winery, situated in Nuriootpa, in the heart of Australia’s Barossa Valley. The second generation of the Ashmead family, brothers Cameron and Allister, now run the winery day-to-day and are passionate about producing wines that are balanced, varietally correct and classic in nature. Visit Cellar Door to taste the range of wines and experience some of the Barossa's oldest vineyards.

    Lovely wine as always
Many years since our last visit but the wines are still exceptional. New tasting area is the renovated Ashmead home and has some lovely old rooms to walk thru and a wine room to die for...pity it's locked 😁 lol. Our host was lovely and made the tasting experience more enjoyable. The new Small Victories Wines is right next door and the rose is lovely. Put it on your to do list.
We are so happy to hear that you enjoyed our new release wines upon your return visit to Elderton Wines, taking the the opportunity to enjoy the atmosphere of the Ashmead Family Homestead whilst here. We agree that our sister cellar door Small Victories Wine Co have some delicious alternative varietals and it is well worth allowing extra time in your itinerary to fully explore both cellar doors in one location!

My Favourite Winery that supplies the wine I drink each day and also on special occasions!
Superlatives are not that useful with Elderton - just a professional outfit. I first enjoyed their wine around 1995 and have been a regular customer since. The range and quality is difficult to find replicated elsewhere and the people are just fantastic. The work they have invested in their Barossa Valley property has resulted in a magnificent show piece that can be enjoyed by all.
Love it! Thank you for sharing such wonderful appreciation for all that we do.

    We'll be back
Martin Howley & friends went for a tasting and found the cellar door host welcoming and very knowledgeable about both the wines and the vineyard history. He asked pertinent questions to establish rapport and an understanding of our tastes and budget. He tailored the tasting to suit us all and was able to put a custom package together that we were very pleased with. Overall a very pleasant hour or so.
Wonderful to hear that you enjoyed your tasting experience with us. Thanks for sharing. Jodhi

    Well Worth the Visit
What a great cellar door, really well presented with wonderful staff. My wife and I did the shiraz masterclass a few years and thoroughly enjoyed it. Very informative and interesting to learn about how the wines differ from year to year. Each time we go to Barossa Elderton is one of the places we visit. Great wines to buy as well even though I buy too many according to the wife.
It really is interesting seeing the different Shiraz side by side to illustrate vineyard an winemaking differences. We are pleased that you enjoyed the tasting! Thanks for sharing your experience. Cheers, Jodhi

Elderton - Great Wines, Friendly and Helpful Staff
Cellar door at Elderton (my favorite winery) is a wonderful experience. Great wines and very friendly staff. Having been buying and enjoying Elderton wines since our first visit 5 years ago. Planning another SA visit later this year which will definitely include Elderton.
Thank you for your lovely words. We look forward to welcoming you again later this year! Cheers, Jodhi

A wine and experience for everyone
We visit the Barossa Valley and Elderton every year and it is always such a great experience. Every member of the Elderton team take such pleasure and pride in representing this family winemaking success story. The drive through the vineyard to the spectacular cellar door builds the anticipation of some excellent wines which deliver at every level of varietal and price. For me, I am always amazed at how well these wines drink upon release yet cellar brilliantly. Don't miss Elderton if you are in the Valley.
Our team are always happy to hear that the pride we take in sharing both the stories and exceptional wines of Elderton is appreciated and makes for an enjoyable experience.

A Must Do in Barossa Valley
Undoubtedly, one of the best experiences in the Barossa Valley. Fantastic Cellar Door for tasting in a relaxed atmosphere with knowledgeable and friendly staff. Some may think that their premium wines could be on the expensive side (due to their superior quality), but don't let that put you off - they have something for all tastes and budgets. It is a MUST-DO for serious wine tasters, so don't let the opportunity pass. Be the envy of your friends when they find out you have visited Elderton Wines.
Thank you for sharing your experience and recommending both our delicious wines and the warm hospitality we pride ourselves on offering.

    Elderton Wines
We had done a tour of wineries before and found that they changed to venues about and that 8 or more was to many places to visit. This time we hired car and decided to see three to four per day over a two day period in the Barrosa and Adelaide Hills. Elderton was a wine we first encountered in 1989 and loved it and still do. So it was a must to see on our list. Others where Wolf Blas, closed for several days so no luck, Two Hands and Meltons. Certainly Eldertons has the best cellar door I have ever seen. It's a beautiful old house and you get to try wine at the counter or seating in luxury. The bathrooms are also fantastic and not the old tin sheds of the past I was seen in other wineries. The lady on was very friendly as we were the only ones so far this day. All quiet in the area as tourists more interested in Bike races. They have a tasting charge, all do, but waived if you buy. We like reds so my wife, I'm driving , does the tasting and selects a number that she thinks are just fantastic. Having just returned from France were wines are not full bodied and range from 45 to 500 Euro this was a great first start. A nice case in the post for when we get home.
We are so pleased to hear that you enjoyed your tasting with us! We certainly agree that 8 wineries is a lot to visit in one day and that a more relaxed itinerary allows you to enjoy the ambience and savour the wines. We'll look forward to seeing you again next time you visit the Barossa. Cheers, Jodhi

Our host from Elderton was Caroline, she had a vast knowledge of the Barossa wine valley, so we were very happy to as our Guide and host. She did a wonderful job of entertaining us with the Barossa history on the walking tour of the vineyard. When we reached the tasting room all the wines were laid out and the knowledge of hers just blossomed even more, it was a pleasure to take our time with the tasting as well as enjoying the delightful cheese board.
Thanks Caroline and Elderton

We spent three days 2 nights in the Barossa wine tasting. So rang the day before to see if it was pet friendly. Yes, outside veranda- if it rains, etc etc. well we drove up got our dog out of the car and made ourselves at home. Daughter went inside to organise tasting (we had been inside last time). Oh no the woman told us she was ‘down a staff member’ and could not do outside tasting. She ‘couldn’t leave the phone unattended’. As if they don’t have a mobile. We would have been the only two customers!

Thank you for offering your feedback. You have obviously enjoyed an experience with us previously and I am sorry that we were unable to accommodate you on this occasion. Our tasting experiences are hosted inside however we do offer guests the opportunity to purchase a glass of wine or self-guided wine flight under our veranda whilst enjoying vineyard views, although I understand that these options did not appeal to you. At the time of your arrival, we were unexpectedly short staffed due to illness and only had one team member working who was due to greet other guests with prior bookings and was also managing incoming calls including bookings to be rescheduled. Whilst she was mindful to try and communicate this to your daughter, we do understand your disappointment and hope that you found an alternate venue to make the most of your day in the Barossa. I apologise that you felt our team member was being lazy or perhaps unaccommodating, this was definitely not her intention and I hope that in this context you may give us the opportunity to welcome you again on another occasion.

A relaxing afternoon drinking the merlot and sampling the cheese platter. Sitting in a room with a fireplace. The wine was Devine and the platter delicious. Walking distance from the Nuriootpa caravan park.
