About
THE REDMAN FAMILY’S ASSOCIATION WITH COONAWARRA BEGAN IN 1901 WHEN BILL REDMAN ARRIVED AND GAINED EMPLOYMENT IN JOHN RIDDOCH’S WINERY. BY 1908 BILL DECIDED TO PURCHASE A VINEYARD AND MAKE WINE HIMSELF. Owen Redman joined his father in 1937, and while the reputation of their wines continued to grow it was not until 1952 that the Redman family bottled wine under their own label “Rouge Homme”. In 1965 Rouge Homme was sold to Lindeman Wines. Owen Redman immediately bought a small vineyard from Arthur Hoffman, and in 1966 started Redman Wines. The current winery was completed for the 1969 vintage. Owen’s sons Bruce and Malcolm started working in the winery in 1981, and are still currently running the business. They were joined by Bruce’s sons Daniel in 2008 and Michael in 2015. Today, Redman’s continue to make wine using many of the traditional techniques, such as hand pruning and open fermentation, learned through four generations of winemaking, to produce handcrafted wines ready to drink now, and with the potential to age for many years. At Redman’s we have 84 acres of vineyard planted to 3 varieties, Shiraz (55.5 acres), Cabernet Sauvignon (25 acres) and Merlot (3.5 acres) in Coonawarra.

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited this winery twice. Once to sample and then to order. We stayed in the Coonawarra Cottages, which is another review, and highly recommended.
We got to spend some time with Mal, who was friendly and knowledgeable ( well you would hope he knew his stuff).
The wines are excellent, we already drink them on the Gold Coast, and ordered quite a few. Still waiting, but good wine is worth the wait.
Make sure you visit this one.

Small humble cellar door. It was lovely talking to one of the family winemakers and learning about the history and the workings of the winery. I do love visiting these smaller family wineries. Redmans cabernet was the very first aged red wine I ever tasted back in the mid 1990s!

Long-standing family winery with great reds and a surprise for us a lovely Riesling. Great cellar door explains the history of this special place . Mal Redman was very helpful and even delivered our winery to our accommodation the gorgeous Coonawarra cottages . On the Coonawarra walking trail.

Great little winery on our walking trail. Enjoyed tasting their range and a great deal on 6 bottles at the time. Thanks for the wonderful service!

We love redman wines but the cellar door experience was quite disappointing. Very dated compared to all others in the region. Wondering why they did not put in some decent money to update the face of winery. Not looking good at all. The man was not interested talking to us. We still bought some wine and the paying system was slow too.
Will only buy it from dan murthy now, forget coming to your door!

Very friendly winery with no frills whatsoever. I think they are more interested in production than marketing.

One of the First Families if wine, we arrived as it opened.
No charge for tasting, love the wines and at reasonable prices.
Great to chat with one one the Redman brothers, learnt a lot.
Signed up on the Newsletter, bought some wine, Shiraz as I have Cab Sauv. already. Not a large impersonal cellar door that’s for sure.

Quite rundown compared to other cellar doors. All the wines seemed to have been opened for a few days distracting from what could be some nice wines

We hadn't been to the Coonawarra in years and decided to start our visit here. We were the only customers and were well looked after. We enjoyed the 2012 shiraz, but the cab sav merlot was irresistible. Don't miss Redman!
