THE REDMAN FAMILY’S ASSOCIATION WITH COONAWARRA BEGAN IN 1901 WHEN BILL REDMAN ARRIVED AND GAINED EMPLOYMENT IN JOHN RIDDOCH’S WINERY. BY 1908 BILL DECIDED TO PURCHASE A VINEYARD AND MAKE WINE HIMSELF. Owen Redman joined his father in 1937, and while the reputation of their wines continued to grow it was not until 1952 that the Redman family bottled wine under their own label “Rouge Homme”. In 1965 Rouge Homme was sold to Lindeman Wines. Owen Redman immediately bought a small vineyard from Arthur Hoffman, and in 1966 started Redman Wines. The current winery was completed for the 1969 vintage. Owen’s sons Bruce and Malcolm started working in the winery in 1981, and are still currently running the business. They were joined by Bruce’s sons Daniel in 2008 and Michael in 2015. Today, Redman’s continue to make wine using many of the traditional techniques, such as hand pruning and open fermentation, learned through four generations of winemaking, to produce handcrafted wines ready to drink now, and with the potential to age for many years. At Redman’s we have 84 acres of vineyard planted to 3 varieties, Shiraz (55.5 acres), Cabernet Sauvignon (25 acres) and Merlot (3.5 acres) in Coonawarra.

Redman has some great reds, and is well worth a visit when your in coonawarra.

This was a more casual approach than some of the other wineries. We stood around the small bar to taste. The host was very informative, possibly one of the family in this family run business. There was no sales pressure but he was happy to answer questions and share interesting information. The tasting was free and we could choose from a reasonable list but also had the opportunity to try a rarer wine as it had been opened. This is an old established winery and the wines were, as expected, good quality.

Went with a friend to try some wine and while the cellar door could use an update. The wines are quite good and reasonably priced.

Not quite what we were expecting, but the 4 wines that were available for tasting were nice. Couldn't have a glass of wine in the cellar door area as it was for tastings and purchases only so overall a quick stop-by type of experience before moving onto other venues.

Great little winery on our walking trail. Enjoyed tasting their range and a great deal on 6 bottles at the time. Thanks for the wonderful service!

We visited this winery twice. Once to sample and then to order. We stayed in the Coonawarra Cottages, which is another review, and highly recommended.
We got to spend some time with Mal, who was friendly and knowledgeable ( well you would hope he knew his stuff).
The wines are excellent, we already drink them on the Gold Coast, and ordered quite a few. Still waiting, but good wine is worth the wait.
Make sure you visit this one.

Long-standing family winery with great reds and a surprise for us a lovely Riesling. Great cellar door explains the history of this special place . Mal Redman was very helpful and even delivered our winery to our accommodation the gorgeous Coonawarra cottages . On the Coonawarra walking trail.

My husband had a recommendation to come to this winery. It did not disappoint. The wines were amazing and couldn’t decide what to buy so we bought a bit.
Highly recommend all reds as they had some amazing easy drinking, weekly type drinking (if your like me) wines and some lovely deep reds. I do believe there is something for everyone here.
Even had one of their reserves at the local restaurant in Penola after the tasting we loved it that much we knew we would love it with dinner.

With a group of friends we were doing part of the Walking Trail and headed to Redman Wines, but the cellar door had changed. It was downstairs, not upstairs. We appreciated the cool from the warm air outside, but this was great. We tasted, talked and learned so much about Redman Wines. We will be back.

This winery is so good for the reds that it produces. The service and tasting was great as usual. as I have visited numerous times over the years.
