In my search for alternative activities in Yeppoon I discovered the Capricorn Coast Pineapple Rail Trail, a disused railway, opened in 2014 for the enjoyment of walkers, runners and cyclists. Historically, the railway commenced operation in 1910, both with freight and passenger trains, but predominately with the transportation of pineapples. This activity ended in 1991, with the line being pulled up by 2008. This is a wonderful repurposing, we enjoyed walking along the sealed path for forty minutes from Braithwaite Street, enjoying the serenity before returning.

Took time out from the CBD to do a dog walk along the first couple of k's of the rail trail. Plenty of interesting signage at the start depicting the history of the line. Pleasant leafy stroll along a sealed pathway. Will make a sensational bike trail if/when the route is constructed all the way to Rocky. Meantime the Council are currently finalising a new small section from Yeppoon Station to the current start point, which also doubles as the local Parkrun start.

The Capricorn Coast Pineapple Rail Trail is a flat, 8.5 km (return from Braithwaite St) asphalt trail. It is perfect for walkers, joggers, bikes and scooters. It was nice to ponder on the history of the trail and the daily train commutes while walking.

I took my quad skates to Yeppoon just to do this trail. There is ample parking at the bottom of the trail. It is paved all the way to the end with a couple of easily negotiated road crossings. Beware of the small stones in places.

Just over 4kms (one way) of bitumen walking track, away from traffic and other noises makes for a very pleasant walk. Use for walking running and bike riding. Ideal

This first stage of the Rail Trail is an easy hour's walk along a shaded and sunny bitumen path lined with interesting views of backyard gardens and the Yeppoon Golf Course. A great way to get your steps up!
