Loved the ferry ride. Very efficient service. Polite and helpful staff. I would like to see a vessel information plaque somewhere on board with info on manufacturer, engines etc. Sue’s island bus tour was excellent. Well done to all

Book on-line or via an agent (caravan parks) much cheaper than phone.
Ferry trip smooth (don't think it ever gets rough) Informative video on ferry. Ferry takes just over 1 hour, staff great, seats comfy. Short walk to bus for tour to fort and cemetery very interesting the history of Thursday Island with enough time for a good wander and photo opportunities especially from the fort. If you have a "Seniors Card" it will give you a 50% discount on the ferry portion of the tour.

Great to hear stories from all the times in the past, from a family who has been on the Island for generations. Very flexible, responding to our interests as our bus covered the island.

We did the Peddells one-hour tour of TI on arrival on the island (9.30 am). So, it offered a good orientation to the place. Our guide Christine is a long-term local was a real fountain of knowledge. She told us the main industry here is administration; TI is the admin HQ for all of the Torres Straits. Was very surprised at the size of the hospital here, but less so when Christine told us the numbers of nurses and doctors on the island. The two highlights of the tour were the TI cemetery and the Green Hill Fort. We spent about 20 minutes at the fort, which offers superb views over the township below and across the beautifully blue waters to some of the other TS islands. The fort is also a very important historic site, having been built in the 1890s when there were fears of war between Britain and Russia. It then saw service again during WWll.
With regards the cemetery, our stop here was limited as there was 'a grave unveiling' occurring when visited. Christine told us about the great significance of these events to the Islanders. The cemetery looked so interesting and varied I decided to go back by myself later in the day. So glad I did. I spent over an hour here - I would say it is the most interesting cemetery I've ever visited. It is definitely worth more than a few minutes.

We arrived on the island early morning and were on the second tour, so we needed to kill a couple of hours. We walked up to the main street and walked up and down it. Called into a lovely little souvenir shop that had plenty of items to choose from. Apart from the supermarket there was not a lot open. Checked out the surrounding areas for a while took some great photos of the waterfront and then it was time to catch our tour bus. The guide was pretty informative and told us heaps of information. The fort was interesting and had a lot of items to look at. The views from the top of the fort were breathtaking. We stopped at the cemetery and were able to see some interesting sites. Then back to the ferry port get some lunch (make sure you have plenty of cash) and back to Bamaga

Did the bus tour. Interesting sights but the guide was not very good. Told us all the sights to see from the fort after we had left the fort. Handed the map of the island out about ten minutes before the end of the tour.

Her commentary on the cbd was confusing as she babbled on and ran it all together so it was hard to remember the important bits.

Excellent tour of Thursday Island, we had no idea how big TI is and the amount of people on it. Christine’s local knowledge was evident with the clean a/c bus

Thank you for your response. With Thursday Island being the Administrative Hub of the Torres Strait, tiny "TI" hold the main infrastructure for the Torres Strait. The Peddells Thursday Island Tour is operated by locals who are extremely knowledgeable in the history of this unique part of the world.
