Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The pearl farm is quite interesting to visit, being a 15 min water-taxi ride from Thursday Island. It is located on Friday Island, and when you survey the surrounds from the rickety jetty it seems about the most remote place in the world. Our host was a Japanese man who has been involved in the pearling industry for over 50 years. On arrival we were given a very gracious Japanese-style welcome including refreshments by his young assistants. Some of the facilities here are quite basic and our host gave a demonstration of how pearls are seeded, with 16 of us crowded around him under a large tent as he sacrificed a couple of oysters. The dissections weren't for everyone's tastes; there was more fun and some relief when we headed up the hill the the shop, where at least 3 of the group found the power of the pearls too overwhelming to resist.

You need to get a taxi boat from Thursday Island to Friday Island and it only takes 20 min max. You get to see how the pearls are farmed then you can have a browse around the shop which is great. The hours are from 11.30am till 2.30pm

Beautiful location on Friday Island. Excellent fresh sushi lunch. And so many lovely pearls! Every gift had a story behind it.
