Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a lovely easy walk in a beautiful area. It was still cool in September when we did the walk midday, however if you do it summer time maybe make it early morning or afternoon. It was so quiet and peaceful and there were some flowering plants out that were beautiful. The lake itself is mesmerising and very serene. I love this walk, it always makes me feel happy and at one with nature.

This is very pretty but it is a bit of the walk. 3.2 km in both direction. Gentle slope down and what feels like a less gentle slope up. Remember this is sand walking so its not as easy as you might think. For most at least 1.5 hours return. The tracks actually link up, but the map doesn't show this.

Whilst we enjoyed our walk to the Blue Lake we were both a little disappointed when we finally arrived. Whilst walking along the track we were hoping to some sort of wild life not a sign of anything. When we got there the view of the lake was not the best. Dont get me wrong we loved the walk and enjoyed ourselves but being keen bush walkers found that we have been on better walks. Some advice for those going to take the walk...wear good footwear, take water, and do the walk early morning or late afternoon. If you do decide to do it in the heat of the day wear a hat and wear sunscreen.

Our afternoon was to discover both Brown and Blue Lake not far from Dunwich on North Stradbroke Island, while Brown Lake can be arrived at by foot if you desire (3.5kms), a car is essential to arrive at the Naree Budong Djara National Park carpark for the start of the 5.2 kilometre return hike to Blue Lake, also known as Karboora, meaning deep silent pool in the aboriginal language.

There are no facilities in the area, no toilets or water so it is essential to plan ahead. We had come prepared with suitable clothing and shoes, hats, sun-cream, some fruit and water for a very pleasant afternoon walk. It took us approximately thirty minutes to arrive at the lake along the easy undulated sandy path; the path is moderately shaded but there are open patches of full sun.

We passed very few people on this Sunday afternoon, it was delightful to finally arrive at the lake and have it all to ourselves. Look out for the small viewing platform on the approach to the lake to get an idea of the size of the lake and take some photos.

Read a few reviews on Trip Advisor before I embarked on the walk to the Blue Lake with my three boys (9, 10 &11 y.o.). Despite some negative reviews I decided to check the Lake out and was I amazed!!! Right in the middle of the forest was this vast crystal clear lake. There is an easy walk to the lake, there is nothing there but pure nature. The lake is suitable for swimming and in the shallow water it looked crystal clear. If you love easy walks and you love discovering miracles in the middle of the forest then this walk will be worth every minute of it.
A few tips: there is no amenities around the lake area so make sure you bring food and water. Not recommended for children under 5, prams or people with mobility problems as the track is easy but narrow for about 1.5km. It might be too hot walking to the lake on a warm day. We commenced the walk at 15:30 and made it back by 17:30 which was the best time because on a nice day you get glimpses of the sunset over the lake.

A 5.6km round trip through the bush on a sandy path around a lake with barely any water in it and certainly no longer blue. Total waste of time - stick to the North Gorge Walk instead.

Only do this walk (6km return) if you have the time and energy to spare and you have covered all other main sights (point lookout, north george walk, brown lake, cylinder beach etc). While the lake is quite scenic to view, that's about all you can do - view it. There's no access to the lake or any trail that goes around it. .The walk to the lake and back becomes quite monotonous save for a few pretty birds to photograph (if you are into that). We were tired and craving for a place to rest and refresh when we reached the lake but had no choice but to turn back and make the whole walk back. Despite being a brisk walk, we spent a good two hours to accommodate a visit to blue lake.

Blue lake is a lovely spot - it is a good 40min walk each way so a bit arduous if you are not fit or have small children. We found it well worth the effort and were rewarded with a pristine blue lake to swim in. No toilets, no sitting area which probably should have been explained in a sign somewhere at the beginning of the walk. Few people go there as it is a hot long walk but that's why we like it - nobody else there when you get there. Take plenty of water and covered shoes. Some snakes around so keep your eyes open. Swimming was silly gorgeous.

A beautiful and peaceful place to visit. There are three options for walking tracks. We took the middle track, about 45mins each way at a leisurely pace. I have uploaded a site plan as an image for further reference. No amenities, just you and nature = perfect!

I have wanted to go back to Blue lake since I was a kid. First tip: you cannot drive there anymore, believe me, that’s a good thing. It keeps the area free from huge numbers of people. Apparently it’s a 6k round trip, although the sign that says “100m to the lookout” is about 300m out. The path is a sandy one, my kids wore their thongs (flip flops) but I wore trainers so it was ok. Much longer than I thought, about 40 minutes each way (we are not that fit), but the lake was worth it. Freshwater, cool but not cold and glorious. Is a must do for Straddie!
