Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Located just out of Ipswich CBD, lovely old sandstone church, interestingly the old hitching wall for tethering horses located across the road. Interesting piece of history often goes un-noticed.

St Mary's is a beautiful church that will long outlive the city of Ipswich.. the church is beautifully maintained and stands majestically..everyone who enjoys architecture or seeing old churches should visit.

I/we recently attended St Mary's Church for the funeral of a dear friend. I am not a Roman Catholic, nor am I particularly religious, but the whole experience was wonderful. The outside of the building is very imposing. It stands out as a polished icon. It faces open spaces (with trees) and although it is part of the 'cityscape' it is an 'oasis' in the concrete and bitumen 'jungle' that is the city.
Inside it is exactly as you would expect. A very well lit enclave with (very) high ceilings, stained glass windows, rows of wooden 'pews', all leading to a very attractive altar arrangement. It met all of our expectations. The Priest was easy to listen to, and the service was 'right' in all respects. The sound system was clear (to hear) and brought it all together.
The most outstanding thing for me was the choir-master. This lady had the (schoolboy) choir singing as if their lives depended on it. The maturity of their singing was superb, but the undoubted 'star' of the event (funeral) was the singing of the soloist (choirmaster). I can say that in my 70 years (of listening to many singers) this was the FIRST time that the singer let the song (amongst them 'Ave Maria') speak for themselves. She was there for the song and NOT to showcase her voice. The song came first. She even sang from where she was standing and didn't present herself 'front and centre'. How wonderful was that to hear the songs as the songwriter had intended them to be rather than the artist's interpretation.
A thoroughly delightful experience made all the better by the soloist singer. Thank you.

I come to this church from time to time and I love it. I love to listen to the organ and look at the beautiful stained glass windows. It might be a big church, but it has a nice feel to it.

There is a new guy. The last guy suicided and didn't make Pizzwich St Marys. It is MY church and it's no longer where i go. To see the building in need of a good spruce up. The place is drab. It has been let go. The Pipe Organ can't be played as the Fire Mob have closed the staircase up to it. I raised cash to get it repaired after the pigeons lived in it. It is HERITAGE and as such should be looked after. They put on Talks about the future. Clean up the mess then start thinking of any future. Sorry it's MY church and i demand better.

St Mary's is an Ipswich landmark. In fact it is perhaps THE Ipswich landmark. It is worth a quick look from the outside but sadly has little to offer the sightseer on the inside. the alter and surrounds has the look of an unfinished project.

ONE of THE places to see in Ipswich before the Council tears it down like many Heritage Buildings have gone because of a non cultural mob. It's so so sad to see great little Miners Cottages go. No value for the past. This was to be THE cathedral for Qld. Catholic Church. The Presbytery [Priests Home] has Itialian Portico with Bishops Mitres on each arch. There has never been a bishop there regardless of the years it has stood majestically floodlit at night. It is THE most beautiful building in S.E.Qld and you can't miss it. It was build in the Depression times and the stonemasons were paid with meat and food for their work. Over the road on the fence are the old horse ties from the days of horses. It needs care and costs huge dollars now to upkeep. The NEW stained glass windows just don't fit the building. They are a disaster and need removing badly. The Organ needs work and again it's heritage instrument. Oe of the Crosses hit by lightening went through the roof They are massive steel. Like a Wedding cake on the Canvas it's a delight regardless of what Faith we have.
