About
Tucked away in Ipswich's gracious and historical Queens Park is Nerima Gardens - Japanese gardens designed in consultation with Ipswich's Japanese sister city, Nerima. This idyllic retreat is a wonderful way to wind down your visit to Queens Park or take a break between enjoying its other numerous attractions. The picture-perfect self-contained gardens sit behind the historic caretaker's cottage and feature a series of winding paths through fir trees and Australian native plants - some of which are indigenous to Ipswich. There, you'll really appreciate the serenity and aesthetic beauty of the pretty flowers, and experience a model traditional Japanese tea house and a small verandah overlooking a stream. There are also boardwalks over an ornamental lake where you can feel the tranquillity of being serenaded by constant running water.

Extremely pretty gardens in Queen Park. It's nice to stroll the bridge over the ornamental lake. The kids loved running ahead along the paths.

Lovely gardens in the centre of Ipswich. A great place to enjoy an hour or so getting away from it all and enjoying the relative calm of the gardens.

The Nerima Gardens are an attractive Japanese Garden section within the Queens Park reserve. It is a just a short walk away from the Nature Park, also within the park and a definite highlight. The gardens are very peaceful and nicely laid out. They are slightly more relaxed than some other Japanese Gardens I've seen but this somehow makes them more relaxing to stroll around. There are a lot of water dragons about but they keep to themselves.

Cute little zen-type area. Not huge but just a kind of delightful surprise.
Paths (some concrete, some stepping stones) winding around little lake and stream with turtles and water dragons. Shady trees and bamboo clusters.

Nerima Gardens seems to lack the popularity of Toowoomba's Japanese Gardens. Nerima is much smaller, but also often quieter and less crowded.
The Japanese sense of subtle style is well expressed, probably just lacks a bit of scale. But remains a beautiful place to visit.
It's a haven or local wildlife being in the heart of the old City.
There are plenty of spaces for quiet relaxing or reflection. And many find examples of trees and shrubs you dont see every day.
Nerimm Gardens, probably not a destination in itself, but taken as part of the Queens Park experience It's highly recommended.
Pack a picnic and find a cool quiet space in the many opportunites that abound.

Perfect for a casual walk around these Japanese style gardens situated in Queens Park Ipswich. Often the surrounds of the artificial lake abound wit inquisitive water dragons and there are numerous turtles in the lake itself. This is a great spot for the avid photographer. Unfortunately, at the moment, the place has become overrun by nesting flying foxes.

This is one of the most beautiful Japanese Gardens I’ve seen. Perfectly maintained. Over the holiday period they had turned the gardens into an enchanted garden with beautiful lights on the trees and over the bridge. It was lit up like a magical garden. Even during the day these gardens are stunning. As soon as you walk in there is a beautiful pond with lots of water dragons and a small waterfall. The gardens are so tranquil even though they are only a few kms from the city centre. I would come here for a picnic, read a book or even just to bask in the beautiful nature. There is a traditional Japanese tea house but I’ve never seen it being used. There is so much to explore here definitely worth a visit if in Ipswich.

I took our girls (9&10) for a walk through the Japanese garden to fill in some time before dinner. Lovely paths through a contemplative garden with quite a few mature lizards present even at the end of the day. Saw a magnificent lizard sunning himself then jump into the lake for a cool down swim with the lily ponds. Short or long time - a lovely spot just to take a moment in our busy lives.

Well maintained gardens near Queens Park animal reserve. As a local, I think it would be great to have yoga classes near the pond!
