Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My parents and I called by here one late afternoon, hoping to get some dinner and see the animals that we'd heard about. We left hours later, bellies full and spirits buoyed.
Chris is a character: energetic, genuine, funny and kind. His butterfly farm and pet garden is eccentric, a real oasis in the otherwise dry and sometimes strange feeling town of Bachelor.
Dinner was excellent and fairly priced: I had a buffalo curry and my mum and dad shared a vegetarian nasi goreng. We all drank mango smoothie.
It is a pet garden/hobby farm, not a farm, so set your expectations right, but the animals are content and accordingly, we felt good too. The few butterflys that we saw in the butterfly house were big and beautiful.
This would be a great place for families with kids, animal lovers and green thumbs to stay. The accommodations that we peeked inside - in the process of being freshly painted - were clean and spacious. The accommodations are right amongst the pet gardens which adds to the interest of the place: one bungalow even positioned right next to the fenced (single small male) crocodile enclosure!
My only wish is that Chris upgrades Zeus the saltwater crocodiles enclosure so that he has more room - it's a bit small.
We drove away in the darkness, my mum having just been gifted a flower from Chris that only blooms at night. What a special experience in the unlikeliest of places...
Cheers to Chris and his butterfly and pet garden, we thank him for making our stay a special experience.

5 Stars! Friendly, inviting people and an atmosphere of creativity, retro and a quirky homely vibe! My 3 year old and I loved visiting the place and all the animals. The animals are well cared for, EXTREMELY FRIENDLY and love their carrots 😁 Definitely a must-see visit/stay. We will be back everytime we go out those ways 😀

Batchelor is situated a few km from the entrance to Litchfield NP. Nothing special we thought until we saw a sign for "The Butterfly Farm". It was at the rear of an attractive old house and the children were able to walk among the butterflies. The bird-wings were particularly beautiful and some even sat on the childrens' hands. As a bonus there were a variety of animals outside such as rabbits and chickens. All this was in a delightful water garden setting

This is an unusual but convivial place to stay. It would be a great face for families with children as it has a butterfly house, rabbits, other animals - I think I saw some goats - and of a night, definitely a couple of cane toads. The food is excellent and healthy. Chris, the owner and the various women who work there are very friendly and obliging when requests are made. My husband was very unsure from the look of the place outside, but we spent two nights there in our cabin / room and we enjoyed it immensely. Do stay here if you want a down to earth, friendly, relaxed environment.

It's a nice stop for coffee and toilet break after visiting Litchfield National Park before heading back to Darwin City. I skipped the butterflies as you need to pay. However you get to feed chickens, pigs, ducks and goats for free if you wish. Should be fun for kids but be warned that the animals are really hungry/ greedy.

This place is very unique with a charm all of its own. We stayed overnight in one of their rooms (Alice in Wonderland themed) and smiled alot! Our kids loved visiting the rabbit enclosures and were over the moon at being able to feed them.
The host is very welcoming and there is a relaxed café/restaurant on site. Just before dinner on the night we stayed, an entertainer (clown/magician) had everyone in stitches.
This place is an unexpected surprise in the small town of Bachelor. Perfect for families.
Accommodation is simple, clean and colourful.

We,ve been living in Darwin 18 yrs and can’t believed we hadn’t been to the butterfly farm at Batchelor, I had my sister come to visit from Taree and as she’s a lover of butterflies we called in there on our way to Litchfield. We were met by the owner of the place who was extremely friendly and a little loud but super lovely and his partner.. the staff were great and very knowledgeable and wher more than happy to answer questions. They have more than butterflies there as well, lots of rabbits, snakes and a big fat pig..can’t remember its name, they do offer food but as we were on our way to the falls we didn’t stay for food.. would recommend as thy have lots of butterflies and kids would have a ball, my sister just loved it.

We stopped off here for morning tea on our way through to Litchfield. The place was a very different experience, quite quirky and really enjoyable at the same time. The owners we very passionate about their butterfly's and the food they provided to their customers.
They food and menu choices were amazing. The owners were very generous people and provided more that expected with the food ordered. Thanks for a great experience will be back for another visit when we visit the area again in the future.

Yes they do have butterflies with some very large and pretty ones along with lots of rabbits and a very impressive vegetable garden. Although small this place is definitely worth an overnight stop especially if your are having a day out at Litchfield National Park. Both the evening meal and breakfast were very pleasant nothing to fancy but good food. Rooms are large and comfy with some quirky themes and colour schemes. The place is a bit different but relaxed and enjoyable and not something you get everyday. We really enjoyed our stay.

We thought we’d try the breakfast here and unfortunately this is not their strong suit. I ordered coffee and pancakes & was very disappointed - the coffee was made from UHT milk and a latte sachet & the pancakes (2) were from a supermarket shaker bottle. Maybe my expectations were too high, but I was charged a premium price so I don’t think it was unreasonable to expect more...$12 for the pancakes and $4 for the coffee, so I would not recommend. Seeing the animals though is well worth it ($30 family of 4). The butterflies are pretty & the kids adore playing with the rabbits and farm animals including geese, goats & pigs. We will never eat here again but would return for the animals.
