Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is our first visit to Ben Boyd Tower. We visited the attraction on a recent short break in Eden. It is an easy drive from Eden with a small section of gravel road to the entrance and carpark. The walkways and viewing platforms look like the area has been recently upgraded and they have done a really good job. Also, while in the area we visited the Naval Wharf area and jetty, which was open on the day. This was a very interesting discovery and well worth a visit if it is open on the day you are visiting. The viewing areas at the Ben Boyd Tower Reserve give panoramic views of the coastline. The Tower itself is an interesting structure and you can go inside and look up at what were the various floor areas, as the timbers are still in existence. It is a short walk from the carpark to the Boyd Tower and viewing platforms.

I visited this Tower many years ago (1994) and looked forward to a return visit.
In doing so I found the road, the walking track and the parking area had been substantially improved.
The view from the site of the Tower is spectacular. Likewise the preservation of the Tower built in 1847, is to be acknowledged.
The Tower is a historic memory of the activities of Benjamin Boyd, as well as the construction and building techniques of the past.
I would highly recommend visiting this semi - isolated location, to view this formidable structure and to embrace the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Easy sealed road in to turn off and short drive to carpark. National Parks parking fees apply but that is for the whole day in Ben Boyd National Park. An impressive structure that can be viewed internally but no access to the top. Stunning coastal views from this location.

It's good to pop in and see a bit of local history, but the main attraction is the headland and natural environment. It is a beautiful location, located within a National Park, so there is a fee to park there which is rather antiquated and requires you to fill in your details on an envelope. It is about 20 minutes off the main highway but I was glad to visit it. However, I would not go back again. The internals of the structure are bare and you cannot climb the tower, so you are really just visiting the headland.

As per other reviews, we took the short drive from Eden to enjoy the views, but the site needs some serious maintenance. One of the signs explaining the site was half burnt out during the fires and yet to be replaced. Surrounding the lookout was some string designed to keep visitors from going down the path towards a damaged lookout. This valuable heritage area is in desperate need of work to bring it up to a descend standard.

Ignore for a moment its sinister (for whales at least) origin and you’ll discover an impressive structure in a stunning location.
You have to pay an honour-system parking charge of $8. That’s not much, I know, but it’s a question of how you pay. A box mounted on the fence accepts cash or cheque, neither of which I carry, and asks you to display a receipt on your dashboard. Rangers, presumably carry out checks. I might not be the only person no longer carrying cheques or cash. Only half of the vehicles in the car park displayed receipts on their dash.
It’s a hell of a long drive though. And there are lots of logging trucks. If you have a purpose for going there, good! Not worth it for sightseeing.

Road out to tower was good for a dirt road. Because the vegetation is cleared due the fires the tower stand alone on the point and is striking . Amazing that they moved all those sandstone blocks . Excelent photo op.

Great to see that the tower survived the fires last year. The surrounding area is regrowing slowly. Good sealed road in and only a short walk from the car park (toilet nearby). Well worth the $8 park fee from National Parks which also covered our entry to drive into Green Cape Lighthouse.

This area is very surreal at the moment due to the bush fires. The area is blacken in trees, with the red stone landscape and sparkling blue water and intense green regrowth. And the tower stands proud amongst this. The sandstone of the tower is as solid as it was when first built. To stand there, you can feel the ghosts of the past and your emotions will be stirred.

We were so glad to see this hadn’t been lost in the fires, however there has been little upkeep. We visited a few decades ago and it was a different experience. It’s an easy reach from Eden, so you want to check it out if staying nearby.

The parking is very easy and super easy to find.

I didn’t see any whales though :(
