Lots of money for average visits.
The castle can only be visited with a guide, a € 10,50 pp. You can only take photos on payment of another € 5,-. The building is beautiful in Baroque style but otherwise not very special. The tour is about half an hour with a story about the royals. Not very special.

    Beautiful and worth a visit
A little trip down memory lane. After many years back to Sauerland and of course the lock was on the list. I had been here as a little kid and now again. The tour is fun to do, but not suitable for young children. During the tour you will wear a kind of slippers over your shoes, to protect the floors. The only downside is having to pay extra to take pictures.

    Interesting
Very rewarding. Guided tour was interesting and it was nice to see where Queen Emma grew up. Minus (and plus for others) is that you have to pay 5 euros to take pictures but that this is not paid attention to. So everyone took pictures.

The residential palace is tempting to enter with its impressive architectural style.

As I was strolling through the city, a visit to the armory, which is possible without a guided tour, was enough for me.

At the entrance to the armory, you walk through the Alhambra room with its opulent furnishings. Here and in the following rooms there are information folders that provide detailed information about the objects and pictures and also about the history, so that the stroll extended into an educational 1-hour visit.

The friendly and informative reception is also worth mentioning.

On my next visit, I will definitely book the long tour.

Residenzschloss Bad Arolsen is worth a visit if you are more interested in the history of town and its surrounding area's. There is also possibility to visite the inside of the Castle and at certain moments there organised events and concerts. The castle inhabits also a museum that can be visited.

You can only visit this castle with a guided tour. Entrance was €8 pp with the Sauerlandcard. The tour lasted about 45 minutes and you visit the parts that are not inhabited or in use. Informative tour with a good impression of the history of the castle and its furnishings. The connection with the Netherlands is that Queen Emma was born here. You can park in the main street for 2 hours with a parking disc. An alternative is to park in the first parking lot after you get to the main road after the lock (not the 1st road before the lock). This is free and unlimited.

I was not to close to this castle but saw it from far in the past.
Having seen this castle in tha past made me do a detour and it was worth ever minute of the detour.
Guide was great, open for questions and very Knowledgeable.
Rooms are beautifull with a lot of history as they still look like they did >65 years a go.
One has to wear some slippers, inside the rooms after the stairs, over the shoes to preffent damage of the old floor, or is this just to polish the floor.
All in all great place with a link to Dutch history as well.
Show your Sauerland card and you'll get a small discount. I forgot mine and still had the discount. Very friendly.

We did the tour and saw the inside of the residence.
It was very nice. very different rooms and also a weapons chamber to see.

For people with have walking problems then parking places are farther away 300-400 meters, or prk in the street leading to the place

This is a beautiful palace built in 1700, with links to the Dutch Royal family. The original family still live there, and had Adolf Hitler as a godfather. Well worth also visiting Waldeck Castle.

Just outside the citycenter of Bar Arolsen you will find a castle at your left hand side. A guided visit will learn you a lot of the history of the Dutch King and Queen.

This Residenzschloss was a beautiful surprise. We felt like we had entered a different world, with the lavish interior. Our group went with the tour guide and it was interesting to learn the history of the place, although I admit I was most taken in with the luxurious design of the palace itself. Not sure if I would recommend bringing small children as you are required to wear slippers to prevent damaging the floor.
