Have to say the place is so beautiful in summer , but it's another kind of beauty in winter.best season for travel there is July to August, but usually a lot of people by that time .. so if you enjoy some quiet time, better start in June or September. It's a little bit cold tho. Speak of that, remind... More

July and August will be the best time come because of the greens & flowers 🌺. Fortunately it snow a day earlier and the snow cap mountain and the blue blue water looks great. 450Km2 is really big salt lake .

It's also known as Qinghai Lake. I actually went to Xining to see the lake and to take the train to Lhasa instead of flying from Beijing. I have a separate review on the train trip but the scenery for neither of them is really spectacular. I booked the lake trip with a Chinese tour bus as part of a... More

Rent you own driver to visit this place. You will have more places to go and much more time to spend, as long as you like.

It is a nice drive to the lake just to see outside of Xining. The lake is considered a mustsee place but it will depend on the season though. Go there in the monsoon time will probably see cloudy/raining weather and the view of the lake is not very great.

The Qinghai Lake, also known as Lake Kokonor, is a must-see. It is amazingly beautiful and is perhaps the most beautiful lake in China. In July, the weather was mild and it was really a good time to go. This place is very popular with local and overseas tourists.

It's very cold when we reach there. So please bring warm clothing when visiting the place. The lake sits at 3190m high and it is only about 100km from Xining, which is the capital of Qinghai province. Tourist can take a boat ride on the turquoise waves of the lake or go horseback riding along the shores with Tibetan nomads.

This is the largest Chinese lake with some Tibetan / pseudo-Tibetan attractions. Some souvenirs, folklore and architecture. Almost all tourists are and will be Chinese. It takes 2-3 hours from Xining anyway. You can take a boat ride or just look around people taking pictures. Some birds around (I counted 40 species in 1,5 hours) - a must see is... More
