After first seeing the Grand Canal at Zhenjiang where it is not very grand and winds through shabby surroundings, I was very pleasantly surprised at how smart and well presented it is at Yangzhou. The paths alongside the canal are easy to walk and are nicely lit at night making it an attractive place to view from either a cruise... More

After many years of reconstruction and rebuilding this Yangzhou government does understand that roots of the people should be there. Therefore an upgrade was made for parts of the city and the Ancient Canal was one of them. A good shot and a very nice attraction to visit at daytime but also at nighttime.

This wonder of ancient engineering now days determines the boundaries for the Eastern and Southern Part of the center of modern Yangzhou and marks the respective borders of the old city. You could enjoy a nice relaxing walk preferably on the pedestrian street along the west bank right next to the water, from Dongguan Gudu (Wharf) to "1912" Entertainment and... More

We took the cruise on the canal. It is a nice way to travel through the city, but today the canal is lined mainly with parks and modern buildings that don't relate to the canal. If you are looking for historic warehouses and other features of a living canal, you will be disappointed.
