We have visited several times over decades. Much more restored and now more accessible than before, this place has layers of interest depending on your knowledge of china and its history etc. But you can enjoy it and the adjoining mountain with zero knowledge or...More

I would strongly recommend viewing Yuelu Academy with a tour guide so that you can understand more of the history of the site. It is nestled at the base of Yuelu Mountain, and contains beautiful architecture. As part of Hunan University, students can take classes...More

Go early in the morning because by mid-day the place is swarming with tourists and anything but the relaxing atmosphere we had hoped for. Beware it's also closed on Tuesdays.

Charming and welcoming although was a bit crowded on the day. Several souvenir shops strategically located, some items are a bit on the pricey side but still well worth visiting and picking up a couple of items.

I visited here as my wife can trace her lineage directly back 28 generations to the founder of this school. Nice historical site to see, loaded with Hunan University students on the day I went, not a good place for small children.
