Yates Mill is the last operating, water-powered gristmill in NC's capital county. The 18th century mill was restored, and the 174-acre park developed, through a partnership among the County of Wake, Yates Mill Associates, and NC State University. The park is open 361 days per year, from 8 am to sunset. The visitor center with its 2,200 square feet of exhibit space is open 8:30 am to 5 pm. The historic mill is open for guided tours Mar-Nov each year for public tours on weekends (fee: $3-5) and also by appointment on weekdays for organized groups.

We came here looking for a beauty spot for a walk, and this was it! A lot of wildlife to see: turtles, skinks, lizards, and a variety of bird life. The first time we came, a fall festival was on. While we didn't expect it,...More

VERY scenic park. Tried fishing, no luck, but the scenery made up for no fish! Haven't taken a tour of the mill yet, but will definitely return to do that.

This is a gorgeous place and is a trip back through history. The Old Mill is still working, and the presentations are terrific. The guides and workers there demonstrate the process of working the Old Mill. They even grind corn in the old fashioned way....More

Visited with the intent of taking a few photos. I ended up spent 2 hours here. Its a short, easy walk 20 minute walk round the pond. Beautiful restored mill at one end of the walk near the car park. Informative visitors centre too.

Really nice education center, lovely trails and very very photographic spots in this little park. You can spend a couple hours here easily. It would be a nice spot for a picnic.

There is a dock overlooking the water that I always go to lay on for a bit. The mill itself is spectacular with the waterway clearly visible. Many people go here to take pictures.

The 174-acre park with its hiking trails and scenic boardwalks is open year-round while the old grist mill is open for guided tours from March through November each year.
