As part of a visit to Ocracoke Island, we visited the lighthouse. It has been in almost continuous operation since 1823. Unlike other lighthouses on the Outer Banks, you cannot climb to the top. Parking at the site is limited (four vehicles) so it is...More

The Ocracoke lighthouse is smaller but it's purpose was just as important. This is an active automated lighthouse and access to the top isn't permitted. In the summers there is a ranger there who can tell you about the history of it. Also, don't forget...More

The door was open and we went in. You can't go up, but my 3 year old granddaughter discovered that it has great echoes.

Standing tall, the light house is a delight to see. Unfortunately you can not climb to the top, but it is a beauty to behold. Don’t miss it.

Kind of weird to find a lighthouse with no water in view. Crowded almost no area for parking. But it's a lighthouse for those that are viewing lighthouses in the area. Small plack explains about the lighthouse not being open to the public.
