We drove an additional 80 miles on the Blue Ridge Parkway to get here and then found out it closed early due to high winds. Would of been nice to post that on their website. This is the 2nd time we have tried to see this attraction. 1st time it was closed due to rain and fog. Would of loved... More

We visited the bridge with expectations of a bridge similar to the one we walked across in Vancouver, a real swinging bridge. Unfortunately this rebuilt bridge was reinforced significantly because of the high winds and is more like a sidewalk. Also, while advertised as a mile up, the small gorge below is only about 80 feet. The drive up the... More

We have never been here before and we had a wonderful visit. The Swinging Bridge is awesome! It was very quiet this time of year, middle of the week, so the roads were clear and the stops were not crowded at all. I wish we had more time to take a few short hikes, but we had very limited time.... More

1st arrive early! We got to gates around 10:30 and had about 15 minute wait just to drive in gates. $20 per person is pretty pricey, but I believe worth it. Definitely play the CD they give you at the gate as you drive in, it had a lot of interesting information and was timed well with your drive. The... More

Amazing visit. Staff was very professional and helpful. Breathtaking views. Enjoyed the museum and animal exhibits. Delicious fudge! Lots of places to picnic, hike and photo ops. It was very windy at the top and made the swinging bridge a bit frightening.

Thanks for writing! I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. Yes, crossing the bridge can be pretty exhilarating when the weather gets dramatic, so congratulations on tackling it! Hopefully, you got to hear the wind blowing through the steel beams. During those times, we call it the "Mile High Singing Bridge." Thanks for the great review, and we look forward to... More

Such a special day this was. Luckily for us the weather was perfect so the views were awesome. Seeing the animals up close in the habitat was a treat. The restaurant 1/2 way up the mountain was very good and well worth it. The Swinging Bridge was aww inspiring. I felt like I had achieved something on my bucket list.... More

I have visited this place first time after reviewing all the feedback here. My decision was good as this place is very beautiful and fall was at it peak. Place is really beautiful and worth to spend a day to see the scenic beauty. There are lot of colors, red, yellow orange green and brown over the trees. I only... More

Thanks for the great review! I'm glad you got to see Grandfather Mountain wrapped in full fall splendor. Regarding your other comments, guests are more than welcome to bring their own picnics, as the mountain has more than a hundred picnic sites throughout. Folks can also get a picnic to-go or dine in at restaurant, Mildred's Grill, which features fresh-made... More

Found this place while researching interesting things to do while on the Blue Ridge Parkway (as everyone probably does). Stopped in early one midweek morning and we had the place almost to ourselves. We played the CD audio tour that you receive on your way into the private park and it was spot on as it provided relevant information while... More

Thanks for the great review! I'm glad you all happened across us and at such an ideal time. During slower times, or the "secret season" as we call late fall and winter, it really does feel like you have the entire mountain to yourselves. Thanks for the feedback on the audio tour and our environmental wildlife habitats, too! Thanks again,... More

Took the Blue Ridge Pkwy for the ride up, highly suggest this as it gives a lovely preview of that famous profile of the mountain. Love all the little picnic areas and various overlooks on the way up. The CD provided was full of fun facts to heighten the experience. The preserve and museum are also nice stops! The bears... Thanks for the wonderful review, but more importantly, congratulations on crossing the Mile High Swinging Bridge! You're right, the rewards are spectacular, and those views never, ever grow old, no matter how many times you've been here. Thanks for the kudos on the audio tour, and I'm glad you were able to see the bears out and about. Soon, they'll... More
