One of the draws to this pier is that there is no fee for guests at the Holiday Inn Express. It is conveniently located. This can sometimes make for a bit of crowding on a good fishing day. Recent storms have resulted in wear and tear.

This pier is worth the $2 entry fee. We got some great photos of the shore from the pier. The waves that day we were fabulous. They were some of the biggest waves I've seen and I use to live in California and Massachusetts. It was fun watching the fishermen at the end of the pier.

Spent an entire off-season day fishing. Everyone was really nice. Allowing multiple rods was an appreciated perk. The ocean was a bit angry but we had a good catch of mullet. Several large drum were caught farther down towards the end of the pier. We will definitely be back!

Came just to sightsee. The entrance was filled with old arcade machines. The greeting was pleasant. The pier is old with patchy repairs. There was little fishing activity. The view of the ocean was great. We visited four piers in this area, and would choose this one last. The Nags Head pier was good, but the Jeanette Pier is THE... More

Every October I go to the Outer Banks to fish. I've tried a lot of different places and piers, but now I just go to the Avalon pier. It's old and looks a little scary, but it's sturdier than it looks and the fishing is great. By far the best place to go if you're fishing for big Drum, but... More

I have been visiting the OBX since I was a kid. I have fished the piers as well. This has always been my favorite. The people at friendly, the pier house employees are kind and helpful and the facilities are on par with other piers. I was here just before Hurricane Mathew hit and the fishing was gangbusters. Caught more... More

Close to our hotel for some fishing. Didn't catch anything but enjoyed just sitting and watching the ocean.

Great place to get a different perspective of the rough ocean. Very long pier and lots of room. Only $2 to sightsee, can rent poles and get daily passes.

We visited here on September 28 2016. It costs $2 a person to sightsee, and $12 a person to fish the pier. Because of the tropical storms that just happened to passed through this area, the fishing here currently is not worth it. Once the fish return to the area, it may not be a bad place to fish. However,... More

The Avalon pier is an older pier that offers fishing and sightseeing. They also have a large game room that is fun for kids. Also some pool tables for adults. They charge $2.00 per person for sightseeing on the pier. I just sightsee, so I don't know about the costs for fishing.
