We stopped here on the way back from Cape Reinga on a tour with Fullers Greatsights. Gift range was of a very high standard but but overpriced. The kauri tree staircase inside was huge. Carving in the car Park were impressive.

We were lucky to stumble upon this venture before we passed through Awanui. I had been told it was good place for a decent breakfast . I required a third shot in my coffee for my morning kick but breakfast lived up to expectation. What...More

The standard of the kauri items here is high, and due to it being unearthed timber, it has been carbon dated at 45,000 years old. It really is beautiful, and by the way, the big staircase carved within a huge kauri trunk is worth a...More

What a lovely place to stop and have a meal. We had breakfast here Eggs Benedict and they were a reasonable price and very very tasty. A lovely shop to browse with many kauri timber pieces to choose from. We left for Cape Reinga lighthouse...More

It's a perfect place to stop on the way to Cape Reinga or 90 miles beach. The variety of Kauri products is good enough to choose some of the best. The cafe in the shop can be a good place to have lunch before heading...More

Used to be a nice place to stop and visit and have a coffee, unfortunately it now seems to be just a tourist trap for non-stop coach loads of visitors in the summer. Café service is rather messy and disorganised to say the least, and...More

The workshop was closed to the general public. The shop had been renovated, not sure when, but the large pieces of Kauri wood were moved to the very back of the building. The building is now a tourist trap for those on their way to/from...More

Hi Cuppa, thanks for your review. Yes the workshop is closed to the public and is required to be so as it has a lot of machinery and is considered a work safe site under health & safety regulations. The shop has not been renovated...More

Great selection of gifts and souvenirs here as well as a cafe. This makes for a good place to stop. The staff were really friendly and organised, even with the large buss full of people that arrived just after we did, they managed the cafe...More

A very impressive display of kauri products made on the premises by the local iwi’s own craftspeople. Salad bowls at up to $500 each and ornamental craft standing a metre plus tall at up to $2000. Apparently, the Asian tourists go mad for the stuff...More
