Not really sure why this is here? Short walk to the water and biting flies. No birds. Must have been a deal with the massive Pine Island resort community to have this.

We pulled in to do some birding. People did a review about walking two miles, we did not find that. We walked a boardwalk through cat tails that took us to the sound. The walk was pleasant because it was in the early morning and...More

Thought this would be an easy, quick walk to the water. Wound up being more rigorous than anticipated. Not so happy when I was in the thick of it, but happy I did it after the fact! Lots of beautiful plants and birds. The water...when...More

After walking two and a half miles you come to a stand overlooking the sound. There we saw fewer birds than we would see in our community pond. The walk it self was a boring walk through the scrub trees. I couldn't even say it...More

So this Sanctuary is also by the sign that says Pine Island tennis. I talked to Rick and wanted to get into his clinics but was too late. I was VERY impressed with their 2 Har -Tru [ some call clay] outdoor courts. He also...More

Needs Some Attention to Detail There are many many birders and birding people that visit the Outer Banks. To have a place named the Audubon Pine Island Sanctuary, on Audubon Drive will attract visitors. The nature trail is nice and a pleasant stroll, no one...More

This place was recommended by an Audubon employee friend of mine. It was somewhat of a letdown as a birding spot. First, it was difficult and confusing to find: no sign on the main road to turn off, so be sure to use navigation on...More

I walked for well over an hour just enjoying the peaceful quiet of nature. You can look into the Sound Side of the Island where the water is much more calm than the Atlantic side. The weather was perfect today. A beautiful Sunny day with...More
