The drive to this spot from Asheville is nice. Plan on spending most of the day getting there, hanging around and then getting back to your hotel/home. This is a great spot If you're looking to get a lot of exercise (there are lots of trails, stairs, waterfalls) or just want to roam around - that's fine, too. There is... More

Great Experience! Loved hiking to the Hickory Nut Falls and climbing to the top of Chimney Rock. Wear shoes for walking/hiking. Pack some waters.

It was more of a stairs trip than a hike. There are lots of stops along the way. The explanation point is the very top. Beautiful views worth the climb. Wear comfortable shoes as some of the rock is uneven, and bring water. It's also dog friendly!

I grew up going to Chimney Rock park when it was privately owned. Some of my fondest memories are there. I haven't been back since the state of North Carolina added it as a state park and I was eager to see what changes had been made. I have to admit, I was disappointed. I knew they had shut down... Have been visiting the lake lure area for years and remember the sky line trail, recently when I climbed the steps and anticipating the trail to find that it is closed and has been for awhile. What a disappointment, I feel so sorry for new comers who won't get to experience the trail. Seems like the elevator has been closed... More

I have a fear of heights and stairs but I did the 500 step climb. It was great! The views were amazing although I did not get close to the edge! The employees at the gift shop at the top were very nice. The mural in the restroom made you feel like you were outside. The walk down was good... More

Chimney Rock ranks up there with the best! Try not to be put off by the cost of admission. The park is so well maintained and the stairs from the upper parking lot make it possible for most to enjoy the amazing views!! If you feel like getting in more of a workout, start from the bottom parking lot.

We drove 2.5 hours to get here on a recommendation from a friend. It has stellar views but the elevator was down so we climbed many, many stairs to get to the top. Also the flag wasn't up so that was a bummer but cool views and nice area.

Chimney Rock is that rare State Park that actually charges admission ($13 which is $2.00 off as the elevator to the top of the rock is closed for repair). That said, the view from the top of the rock is magnificent if you want to negotiate the 500 steps to get there. We also took the Hickory Nut Falls trail... More
