This is a brand-new art museum in center city Charlotte, N.C. I found the museum to be interesting, but with significant limitations for serious lovers of modern art.

My daughters and I were thrilled to know that we could see a Picasso and an Andy Warhol within walking distance of our uptown hotel. In addition, there are many other modern pieces to enjoy; the display of the art is well done, as well as the commentary. Every room had someone available to answer questions, and the museum had... Some good and interesting pieces, but you can zip through the whole place in about an hour or less. The staff were all very helpful, but I was hoping (more like craving) for more to see. If you have a Bank of America account, or if you have already paid to go to the Mint Museum next door, use your... More

If you ever go to art school you will eventually have the discussion on how to frame a painting. Normally, the frame is to complement the art piece. The Bechtler is about framing the collection, and they have done an outstanding job. I find the collection good, but the staff has taken it up a notch by showing how the... More

This museum holds the collection of a family, so much of it was not in my taste. But I found it very interesting nonetheless.I most liked the Andy Warhol paintings. There were people on each floor who you could ask questions of, and I had a lively conversation with one of them about the importance of art in life. It... More

My wife, son and I went her for something to do during our stay in Charlotte. It was $8/person. Thank goodness my wife found a Groupon discount that saved us $10. The entire museum is 4 floors. 1st floor is lobby, admin counter, and gift shop. 2nd floor has about 25 items to look at. 3rd floor has about 25... More

The museum is smaller than it appears. The fourth floor is the largest floor of art. The art is great with diverse offerings.

If you like 20th century American and European modern art, this museum is worth the price of admission. Sure, it could have a few more pieces by a few more artists. But, remember that this is not New York City. For a city of Charlotte's size and stature, this museum exceeds expectations.

Modern art comes to life in Charotte. Such a wonderful location in Uptown with the greatest collection of ever changing and always engaging pieces. The Bechtler family stewards the first class offering and the curator and staff bring current appreciation to historic goodness. They offer jazz nights, special family days and Bechtler after dark. A must see, whether you are... More

Enjoyed this smaller more intimate museum on a recent trip. Staff was very welcoming and was readily available to answer all questions. Really enjoyed it!
