Wish it had been open, was really looking forward to going to it, bummer. It took a pretty decent drive to get there, so when arriving and seeing that the gate is closed, as well as heading north on the parkway, as it was closed...More

The drive to Mount Mitchell was beautiful with the fall foliage everywhere. The view was breath taking and some of the trees were unusual and different from MS.

Breathtaking views but be prepared for winds and the occasional snow showers. There are plenty of trails for adventuring and hiking.

We just had to take a drive up to the top of Mt. Mitchell for bragging rights! Being from New Hampshire, our Mount Washington is always in the news for being the coldest and windiest spot in the world. But it's still not as high...More

Awesome hike even in the rain and freezing cold. The forest kept us warm. It was magical. A must do hike for sure.

We just visited over the weekend and I can't stop thinking about it. The views from the summit are absolutely breathtaking and it smells like Christmas trees as soon as you step out of your car! I didn't want to leave!

Yes, to drive to the top and walk the short distance to the observation site, 2-3 hrs. will be fine. I might suggest a little more time in order to picnic and explore some of the great trails!
