A must SEE/HIKE if you're in the area

I've been to the top of Mt Mitchell many many times and everytime I go it's like the first time. Amazing views and the history is always fascinating.

So I have been climbing a lot of state high points with my kids. My goal is to go from the base to the top of each on foot. I have done GA, AL, FL, TN and SC. None of these are in the same Ball park as the Black Mountain Crest Trail. It was rated as the most rugged... More

Out for a Sunday drive to enjoy the fall colors when I reached the park. The weather was clear and warm so I made the turn onto the park. The drive in is on a narrow road so at some points along the way you and your passengers will be looking off the side of a mountain. At first you... More

Spent the day at Mount Mitchell leaf peeping. It was a beautiful warm October day. Loved the views from the peak. We stopped at the visitor center and ate lunch at the park restaurant. Highly recommend a visit!

To conclude our weekend of adventure, we decided to drive to the top of Mount Mitchell. The drive on the parkway was so pretty getting there, and the drive into the park was nice. The road is a little narrow, so keep this in mind if you are scared of driving next to a drop off. Once you get to... More

Mount Mitchell at 6684' is the highest peak east of Mississippi River. The Summit Tower could be easily reached through a paved 280 yards' Summit Trail from the parking lot. We also hiked from the summit tower parking lot to Deep Gap campsite and back as a day trip. It is around 8.6 miles and is rated as strenuous. We... More

We also hiked to Mt Craig summit and back from the pakora nag area st the Mt Mitchell summit, but even if you aren't up for a hike, do make up the somewhat steep, but paved walkway to the tower several yards from the parking area. The view is incredible and there are displays telling you just what you are... More

First time on the BRParkway we went south into waterfall country around Brevard. Did not know much of anything but loved the slow meandering scenic pace of the parkway. On day two we went northeast out of Asheville to MMSP. This is the highest peak east of the Mississippi river. Great views, easy parking, easy walk of a few blocks... More

The peak of Mt. Mitchell at 6,684 feet is the highest point east of the Mississippi, so it's well worth a visit if you're on the Blue Ridge Parkway in this area. The walk to the top is not much of a challenge and is on a paved trail. Once at the top, an elevated structure provides a 360 degree... More

Went at the peak of the fall leaf season absolutely spectacular view, 360 degree view of the mountain ranges, The main gift shop was closed a little disappointed but so worth the trip up the mountain.
