We were only able to get a campsite for one night, but it was a great experience. Nice to be able to settle in and enjoy the mountain top.

I love this park. The trick is that you really need to question some of the directions Garmin tells you. If you head towards the park from Old Fort, Garmin will tell you that you take a left turn onto Curtis Creek Road in order...More

Pros: Saw a bear along the road on the way in. The trail along the top of Mt. Mitchell was amazing! It is kind of rainforest-ish with lots of moss, lichens, ferns, fungi, and even Indian Pipe! It really felt like you were in a...More

We knew that we probably wouldn't be able to see a lot due to the fog on our drive and the cloudiness. We walked the path to the top which is steep but not too long. We couldn't see the view, but it was still...More

We stayed at a friends house in the mountains. I would say Asheville would be the closest place with good hotel selection.
