I would pay admission fee to shop here

Clean, organized, well lit, great antiques and collectibles, low prices, always adding new additions. Minnesota critic who wrote in review that this place was dirty is either the competition or a liar, or both. You cannot find a nicer place to shop than Kirkman’s.

Overpriced, Dirty and Overstocked
May 2018 • Couples
I really wanted to give this place a poor but it is really a below average place. It is dirty, cluttered and overpriced but we do go there every trip hoping things will improve. We are major antiquers so we know our quality and prices. There are items that have been here for years that the prices have faded and/or fell off. We have never found the staff to be pleasant the many times we have been in there. I am hoping they will finally have a "come to Jesus" meeting with themselves and clean the place up and start having sales and/or marking things down. We spent well over $3000 on antiques on our last trip to New Bern and spent zero here again.

Looking for Treasures
Apr. 2018 • Couples
While visiting the many attractions in New Bern we added several antique stores to our day. J.L. Kirkman's was on the list and I am very glad it was. The store is very organized and clean without that dusty I don't know what I am smelling scent in the air. Met the owner and her mother and both are very nice people, this will be on our return list the next time we are in the area.

Not Your Average Antique Shop
Nov. 2016 • Family
If you're someone who loves antiques and/or history, be prepared to spend HOURS in here. My grandma and mom had to practically drag me out of this store because everywhere I looked I found cool new pieces and pieces to sets that I was missing from my collections at home. I think the best part of this place besides its very large size and very large selection is that it's affordable. There have been so many times I missed out on bringing home pieces of my collections because I simply couldn't afford the high rates the shop was asking for. That's not the case here though and I was very pleased to be able to bring home a giant bag of goodies that hardly put a dent in my pocket. If I had the room in the car to drag furniture back home to New York with me I probably would have walked away with a new table or two and some gorgeous shelving units.

Very Nice Antique Shop
Sep. 2015 • Couples
We stopped in while traveling through the area and spend about an hour looking at all the "goodies" they had for sale. Fairly large building and it was well organized with no musty smells. We found a few things to buy and will definitely stop in again if we are passing through.

What a lovely store!
Feb. 2015 • Couples
I visited Kirkman's yesterday, on the hunt for some egg cups. I was so pleasantly surprised to find such a clean, tidy, elegant, pretty antique mall near us! The owner has done a beautiful job of organizing and presenting the wares for sale. I think various vendors sell here, but it didn't have the look of a line-up of booths. And she knows EXACTLY where everything is; she found me four egg cups (a rather unusual find in the U.S.) within 5 minutes. Lovely stuff here -- NOT junk. Beautiful china, silver, furniture, all kinds of neat collectibles like crocks, hat boxes, even small appliances, all kinds of old kitchen items. And, unusual for a store of this kind, it smells nice (not musty or moldy) and had such pleasant music playing. I could've stayed and browsed for an hour or two. I highly recommend this store if you like thrifting/antiquing/junking.This is certainly the best antique mall I've ever been in.

a great place

There are over 40 dealers in this antique mall. There were a couple of cluttered, tight booths but on the whole it was well organized with wide aisles. They offered a little bit of anything you could possible be looking for. The people working in there were very nice and knew exactly where to direct us for one item we were looking for.
