Gem mining fun

Our family enjoyed gem mining on the Sunday morning before we left town on our weekend visit. It was fun and we all found some pretty gems.

We waited until 10:15 for them to open today with another family and they never opened. I tried to call but no answer and no hours of operation posted. Really disappointed all of us!

Visited here today and really enjoyed our visit. We shared a 2 gallon bucket for $32 and it was the perfect size for my two kids and husband. The kids found some big gems and were very pleased! The guy who works there was super friendly and humorous, explaining the kids' finds when we were done. We will definitely go... More

The young lady working here was polite and patient but the prices (for the pay-off/satisfaction) are pretty steep. We paid $32.95 for my two kids to work through a 2-gallon bucket of dirt that yielded nothing significant with regards to gems. They probably went through it in about 15 minutes. Going into it, you have to accept that it's a... More

Great time! The prices were better than some other places I've seen. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. We bought a 5 gallon bucket and split it.

Learned the names of the different gem stones and where they were mined. The jewelry they had available to purchase were very nicely assembled and had matching earrings and bracelets. I made several purchases for future gifts. I was surprised that an actual mine was not located on site. I was hoping to see the mining in action.

We had to go back twice because our grandchildren has so much fun mining for "gems". The employees were great, even sorting out the stones after the kids mined for them. A definite must do if you have kids.

We had a wonderful time today. We were promptly served and had a coupon for the Prospector buckets. You can get the coupon out of the local visitor magazine. Chris (not the owner) was helpful and checked on us. Afterward, Chris helped us sort our "gems," told us what they were, and talked to us about the hardness and information... More

I have gone to several mines all over the world. This one is the best I have seen. I go at least once per year. No, you are not going underground and doing hard labor, but you sluice a bucket or tub of various sizes. Go up one size from what you think you can afford. It will be worth... More

We can't compare this to the others right in the Boone area, but we've visited a number of different mines throughout NC and this is definitely one of the better ones. The unsalted buckets have a lot of good interesting bits for the kids to find. The little shop attached is cute.
