Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Take a walk around Woodstock, see what you see, and if it floats your boat, walk a bit more. There are lots of people doing the same. Whether you like it or not, you have to return to the present.

I have been to Woodstock several times and have enjoyed walking around, window shopping and dining.
Last month, my family stopped in Woodstock on the way north. My husband and son went hiking while I had hoped to stroll around town with my Mother-in-law—who is in her 80s but is still fairly spry. My husband encouraged her to take her walker so she would have a place to sit in case she got tired.
I HAD NEVER NOTICED THIS BEFORE BUT THE SIDEWALKS IN WOODSTOCK ARE TERRIBLE. THEY ARE CRACKED, UNEVEN, AND DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE NOT PERFECTLY SURE ON YOUR FEET. THERE WERE VIRTUALLY NO “SAFE” SIDEWALKS ANYWHERE IN TOWN. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPOSSIBLE FOR MY MOTHER-IN-LAW TO HAVE NEGOTIATED THE TOWN WITHOUT HER WALKER. EVEN WITH THE WALKER, SHE CONSTANTLY HAD TO LIFT IT TO MOVE FROM ONE CONCRETE SLAB TO THE NEXT.
Just something to think about if you’re planning a little walking tour.

Stopped in prior to a drive thru the Catskills. Lots of souvenir shops and galleries. Tibetan influences abound? Worth a quick walkabout ...

Ok so the retail stores are on one street Mill Hill Road and it goes for about 4 city blocks long. The people who live and work in Woodstock are what make it what it is today. They continue the the vibe of the 60's. They are the most laid back and friendly people I have seen. Well worth the drive. Just to look around.

Woodstock New York is a magical town at Christmas time. The town square is very small and beautifully decorated for the holidays. They have a very unique Christmas tree in the square which was not lit the night I went but still the rest of the buildings were decorated and the museum and outside Jousha's restaurant are nicely decorated.
Don't miss MywalkinManhattan description of visiting the town during the holidays. The parade on Christmas Eve night is always fun and watching how Santa enters town is interesting. It always changes every year.
The stores are nicely decorated for the holidays and have beautiful window displays. It is fun to just walk around on a quiet night and admire the town. It is really special during the Christmas season. Counterculture no but old Hudson River Valley town yes and that's what makes it special.
Don't miss the parade on Christmas Eve night at 5:00pm.

We drove from Niagara Falls to Woodstock, which took 6 hours approx. The last section which took about 90 mins, was a drive through the Catskills and along the Delaware river, which is a really scenic drive.
Woodstock town is a really laid back neck of the woods. Really nice shops to take a wander through. We went in to 2 great bars The Station and The Colony which is also a good music venue. There are loads of good restaurants and got the best bagels I ever had in Bread Alone. The people we met were really nice and friendly. There is a good music venue called Levon Helm Studios which is situated in a beautiful wooded area. We stayed in a very quaint boarding house at 5 Rock City Road which we booked on Airbnb. If we planned our road trip all over again we would have stayed an extra couple of nights. The bottom line from us is Woodstock is well worth a visit.

Woodstock has been center for the Arts for over 100 years. There are some very good stores and restaurants, but it is very crowded on weekends.
Check out what's happening at the Colony -- good music venue. Maverick is a classical music venue in the summer. The Woodstock Film Festival in October is a major event for filmmakers and a chance to see films you might otherwise miss.
If you're visiting the area, by all means spend a day here. It isn't cheap.

Great variety of shops and eateries for every taste and price range. Must see, particularly those who lived through the “Woodstock Era”.

So sad . There seems to be a municiple evort to eradicate everything that made this town special . It was truely magical but now there's a tourist trail through the Magic Meadow , right through the center , the access to the town's water has been cut off by the owner of the inn on the mill stream . denying traditional access to a lovely spot where for generations paople have sought peace and serenity . They have aggressively driven the most iconic harmless and colorful poorer hippies from the town . Everywhere are signs-do this don't do that . All that's left are sad stores selling tye dye and overpriced clothing. I was in the store across from the noodle bar , feeling sorry for the elderly ladies running it because there merchandise was so awful. I was looking at some trinkets and one of the ladies sneered straight at me and said to the other, "I'm not going to make change for under $20.00"....wow....I left and the municiple bathroom locked the door in my face 15 minutes early . This last time I was there they had no running water and it was filthy but they'd just spent $$$ paving the peaceful back parking lot and installing signs that forbade you to park in the shade ...SO there's no art no kindness no hippies ...save your money and keep driving . If "hippy wasn't already dead" the town of Woodstock has killed him/her.

Woodstock is a nice town. We were afraid it would be too quiet be we found a couple of good bars with live music: "Early terrible" was one of them. If you're into vegan restaurants this place will be a Mecca for you, but there are a range of other restaurants.

MOst shops are open year round. REtail hours seem to be 10am to 7. SOme shops stay open later at night. PLenty of free parking in the municipal election lot behind some shops on Rock City rd. THisparking lot is very close to the village green in the center of town.
