We were visiting Woodstock for the weekend and wanted to get in a local hike to check out the views. The trail to overlook mountain was very easy to get to via the main street in Woodstock. The hike itself was a mildly strenuous hike and definitely got the heart rate going. Once we made it to the old abandoned... More

Overlook trail is an old road that leads to a hotel ruins and then on to an overlook. The trail itself lacked a nature feel given it was clearly a road with electric wires running along the path. The ruins were cool to explore. Do not be deceived however, the ascent may challenge your cardio fitness. The incline is the... More

We have hiked it two or three times. Every time I say, "OMG, why am I doing this?" (We are out of shape over 40s) It's not a trail, but a rutted straight-up-the-mountain road. But then We get to the top. The view is fab. The ruins of the old hotel are interesting. Saw snakes. I hear there's a lake... More

The trail leading to the top of Overlook Mountain is approx. 2.5 miles long and features mild incline entire way. The surrounding area consists of natural forest, bubbling creeks and random rock formations. The panoramic view from the mountain is worth the climb alone, but the nature along the trek is equally breathtaking. There are also interesting ruins of a... More

For the last 3-1/2 years I've lived near the top of Overlook Mountain. I learned that as a result of the Hudson River School of Painters (such as Thomas Cole & Frederick Church), it is the second most painted mountain in the world after Mt. Fuji in Japan because of the clarity of light in the atmosphere. There are so... More

Parked the car on the parking lot of the monastery without problems, and climbed the trail. Overall the bottom part is very icy in the winter, so good shoes absolutely required. Hiked for 2 miles uphill to the Mountain House and its ruins, did not continue all the way to the fire tower. Would recommend to bring walking sticks or... More

Nice walk on gravel and wide enough for a vehicle. Not recommended for people that are not active or have heart/lung disease ect because of the areas with steep hills. The walk up does have areas that level off to a mild elevation and large rocks to sit on and take a break. Bring a lunch there are picnic tables.... More

We decided to do this hike at the recommendation of our Air Bnb condo's owners. They said it was a good hike, moderately difficult but not strenuous. The hike is only 2.5 miles up, and went up at a steady incline. The only downside was the weather, which was cold and snowy. Nevertheless, we enjoyed the hike and we are... More

When I was considering doing this hike, I checked out a few reviews and recalled having seen one warning folks about parking tickets. Sure enough, we drove up to the trail head and the lot was full. So we circled back and found parking along the side of the street where there are not ANY "no parking" signs! Yes, it... More

Hike took about 1.2 hours to the "ruins" of the old hotel. Lots of fun to explore those. About a 10 minute walk further to the gorgeous lookout. Total hike was about 2 hours for us, but we kept up the pace.
