The hiking trail up Overlook mountain has long been a favorite in Woodstock. It's not for the faint hearted. You have to be in good shape to make it up to the top. But if you do, you'll be rewarded with an unparalleled view across...More

I have been hiking in the Catskills for decades, but no one peak offers so much as Overlook. From the tower to the ruins, this hike has it all. The timber rattlesnakes only add to the fun. Arrive early to get parking - the lot...More

Good long hike for the first one of the season! Not very busy for a Friday in early May. Weather was hot and probably should have had more water. Restrooms at the top were a pleasant surprise. Old hotel about 2/3 up was a neat...More

The hike is a bit challenging if you're not in tip top shape. With that said, I hiked up there and lived to tell the tale. It is up hill the entire way with no real flat areas to catch your breath. But if you...More

Went here during a long weekend with friends. Unfortunately it was late March and the entire mountain was still covered in snow. But despite that it was still an enjoyable hike with great views to see

A good Saturday hike...2.5 miles with nice elevation change to the top. Beautiful views and an abandoned hotel along the way give it a nice mix. We did it in the snow, probably easier and less slippery when it’s just gravel.

I'll start off by saying that we decided to do this hike in early April, with snow and ice still around. We didn't have micro spikes and should have. Going down extra was challenging due to ice. We all fell multiple times. If we went...More

Nice hike, moderate climb, really nice views. Bring a camera. The abandoned hotel is fun to explore.

Well-trafficked and easily accessible from Woodstock, this should be on everyone's weekend itinerary. Completed the hike in the snow, which was a little more challenging, but still doable. As of early March, the watchtower was closed.

When I lived here, this mountain was my relationship. We got to know each other through all weather, all seasons and all terrains. It is a moderate club but so satisfying. Especially if you can make it to the Fire Tower. The best view in...More

You can get to the trailhead by car, but you must walk up a 2.5 mile former carriage road to get to the actual summit of Overlook Mountain

There is always people, but if it's crowded is hard to speculate. Maybe during the week while kids are in school before school is out would be good time to go. Once school is out the tourists come from all over. Camping... More

Well we took a car up to the starting point of the hike and it was pretty windy and steep, and it may have been 2.5-3 miles from flat ground... probably further from Woodstock. Seems pretty difficult to bike, and definitely... More
