When everyone from Te Papa to MOTAT is heading in the direction of perspex edu-tech, it is refreshing to find a museum that is keeping it real. If you like taxidermy, replications of old classrooms, and misspelled signs then Mercury Bay Museum is the place...More

I love some local history, and was delighted to see this place. $7.50 isn't unreasonable, for this well kept and well thought out slice of Whitianga's place in kiwi history. Would be a great rainy day activity for kids as well. Really lovely little museum.

This is a little hidden gem. There was so much to see inside and well displayed, low price entry for what you get; lots of history and great information on the local area. Definitely worth a few hours visit.

We only had a short time to call into the museum but had heard a lot about it. Very informative museum of local history. A lot of beautiful artefacts and interactive items. We thoroughly enjoyed it. I would recommend a visit.

Have now visited this museum three times and probably will go again as it has such a wide variety of themes that depict and inform of the local area. There is so much to see and read, it warrants more than one visit.

I spent a whole afternoon here and had to be thrown out at closing time. However, I was given a return ticket for the next day, as I still had more to see. The artifacts and history of the area were just fascinating.
