Lots of lovely things to see and was very interesting for the children to learn all about the history of Whitianga. The children loved dressing up as Captain Cook, such a great idea. If you have time in Whitianga go check it out.

This museum is different from most: it seems a bit unprofessional, but this gives it a certain atmosphere. You can learn about Maori, New Zealand fish and birds, Kauri trees, the history of the area and much more. Well worth a visit if you are...More

The Museum visit begins with a video aimed primarily at children but also informative for adults. However, it would benefit from having the dialogue rerecorded or subtitled as it was not always easy to understand the voices. However, it does not detract from the overall...More

Nothing too flash. Some interesting displays about the local history, as well as some generic stuff. We enjoyed it more as it was our wet weather option.

A very good collection of local and historical items of interest. Especially relating to Captain Cook and his visit to Mercury Bay and the shipwreck of HMS Buffalo.

If you're into history then this is a must-see. Ranging from artifacts from the earliest inhabitants right up to Captan Cook and the wreck of the Buffalo sailing ship, then on to more modern settler artifacts. A must fee for keen anglers, lots of history....More

Good place to come for a bit of local history and as their heritage sign outside says, it reflects in miniature the history of the town till its present day - from trade to tourism and all on a piece of historical property.
