Good for wildlife spotting and enjoying the trees
We only had a brief stop at Yanchep NP as we were on our way from Perth to the Pinnacles, but we liked what we saw and have put it on our list of places to revisit when we have more time. We paid an entrance fee for our car and then parked up near the Kola boardwalk. As they are not native to Western Australia, Yanchep has been home to a colony of koalas since 1938. We saw 3 koalas in the trees - one sleeping, but two moving which was nice. We then walked around the grounds outside the Visitors Centre and saw kangaroos bouncing through the trees and lots of Kookaburra's flying around. It was a lovely place for a quick driving break and called out for further exploration.

Family friendly National Park around 45 minutes north of Perth
Yanchep is a National Park situated around 45 minutes north of Perth. We stopped here on our way into the city and spent around an hour enjoying the Koala enclosure and walking the Park grounds. The Koala Boardwalk is pretty neat. Not sure how many reside here but we managed to spot two way up in the trees resting. Not easy to spot and couldn't see them well in the thick of the trees but still nice that this sort of wildlife attraction and opportunity can be found so close to Perth. Saw quite a few kangaroos near the carpark area nearest to the Visitor Centre. They seem extremely comfortable with humans not minding that we were walking just a few metres from them and stopping to take a few pictures, a couple even had joeys in their pouches. The Visitor Centre has some merchandise and is located in an early 20th-century building that is nice to see if you enjoy architecture. Clean bathrooms available as well. Lots of grassy space and what seemed like great spots for a spring picnic as well.

Peaceful place to enjoy wildlife and wildflowers
Yanchep National Park is about 45-60 minutes' drive from Perth; the easiest way to reach the National Park is by car. Some parts of the park can be accessed free-of-charge; however for the main park areas there is an admission fee of $17 per vehicle (fee will vary depending on concession and if vehicle carries more than 12 people). Our visit was on an overcast and rainy day. After paying admission we drove to one of the car parks and then went to the Visitor Centre to obtain a map of the Park. The Visitor Centre provides information about current wildlife in the park, and wildflowers in bloom. Tours can also be booked here, including tours of the caves that are in the Park (there are hundreds of caves in the Park). We visited the Koala Walkway, the entrance is via a garden area landscaped with native plants. The Koala walkway currently houses one koala; it was resting in a tree near the walkway providing good views for visitors. As well as the koala, we saw various birds including Carnaby's Cockatoos. There are multiple options for walks (including overnight walks) throughout the Park. We opted for a 40 minute walk around the lake. During the walk, the wind picked up, and we heard branches falling. We decided to keep moving rather than taking our time to look at the wildflowers and wildlife. Vegetation around the lake is overgrown with the lake visible from a few vantage points. The weather conditions did impact our walk, and reduced amount of wildlife visible. However, we observed several bird species and kangaroos. Following the walk we had lunch at the Cafe/Chocolate Shop. We sat outside on the veranda and were able to watch various birds (Magpies, cockatoos, 28 Parrot, Swamphen) whilst having our meal. It was a lovely tranquil setting, surrounded by the trees of the Park. The buildings for the Visitor Centre and Cafe are likely heritage listed and probably date back to the 1940s, they are lovely structures and provide a sense of charm to the Park. As expected, amenities such as toilets are available for visitors. Allow about 2 hours for a visit to the Park, longer if you intend going on walks or completing a cave tour. If you're planning on going for a walk, bring appropriate footwear and clothing, being mindful that the weather conditions can quickly change. Yanchep National Park is a lovely place to experience WA's wildlife close to Perth.

Cairns to Perth via Outback Way 2024
We popped up here from Joondalup with my wife's cousin and husband for a walk around the park and to see the koalas. They were introduced a long time ago and the colony are the only koalas in Western Australia outside a zoo. We only saw 2 however. Lovely park and great place for a stroll and a picnic. There is a small entrance fee. Good trails for hiking for those who are more energetic. Well maintained and very well kept. Lots to see. There is a souvenir shop, chocolate shop and restaurant on site.

A morning between kangaroos and koalas
Travel to Australia with the dream of seeing kangaroos and koalas in habitat. In this park I could see them. The koalas slept, I could still see one of them sleeping on a high tree branch but it looked great. The kangaroos I found going into the woods, they show up from afar, they're curious and they stare at people, but they walk away quickly when you want to come up to take pictures. The best thing is that they're loose, in their habitat. Nice park with all the amenities for what one needs. From barbecues with tables shaded by leafy trees, to a restaurant. Impeccable toilets. I just had a hard time finding drinkers.

Came up here for an afternoon out. Has a very nice bar/restaurant serving good simple foods. The park had a large lake but the water level is down a meter and it is choking up with vegetation. However that does provide nesting sites for pelicans , ducks and ibis. Nice to see. Although there is a good population of kangaroos we only saw one. They have a fenced wood and walkway around a koala enclosure. Koalas are not native to W.A. so they are just to attract visitors. They were of course asleep. There is plenty of wildlife to see here though. Back to the bar where I discovered that the main food of Magpies and Rosellas is chips. Nice place for a lazy day out and western Australia wildlife spotting.

This was a random stop off heading back into Perth after visiting the Pinnacles. The signs promising wildlife piqued my interest so decided to spend a few hours. The entry fee was also free if you visited on the same day as visiting the Pinnacles.

The park was very well set out with kangaroos scattered around the park (as well as their droppings!). There was a nice koala gardens enclosure where you could spot the koalas up in the tree tops. There was a large lake with various birds and lots of picnic tables amongst the trees. For those interested there is an old heritage style tea house where you can order coffee & treats (coffee was average).

I’d also recommend one of the cave tours while you’re there if you haven’t done one before. I did the guided Crystal Cave tour ($15 approx for 45 mins) and it was well worth the money. You buy tickets in advance inside the park. You can also do a guided Aboriginal culture tour which run at various times throughout the day..

All in all Yanchep NP was a pleasant diversion and I’m glad I stopped off here.

Henry White Oval is definitely a good destination for those who don't want to get too far off the beaten track, but a great location to test run the new caravan, camper trailer, roof-top tent or RV mobile home.
The camp hosts were very friendly and available when needed; but not too zealous.
The shower and toilet amenities are excellent, but the motion sensors on the lights get set off at night by the grazing kangaroos, so the site right next to the facilities is probably not optimal if you are a light sleeper or your tent material is not light proof.
The camp kitchen is well set up and great for community eating ( even with social distancing)
240V power points available.
Being located just to the West of Indian Ocean Drive means the noise of traffic ( especially heavy vehicles) can be louder than you might prefer, particularly in the early morning, most of the time it fades into the background.
Between the beautiful lakeside park, access to caves and local bush walks there is plenty on offer in Yanchep National Park. Or you can just kick back and relax.

I paid about $200 for the tree climb with my family and had to pay another $17 to drive in. The tree climb in Dwellingup is so much better.

Also there is only 1 place to eat in the whole park"The Inn" and it's a 30 minute wait just for hot chips to go when it's not busy. It was 3:15pm

This park has attracted visitors for almost 100 years. Yanchep National Park is close enough to Perth for a day trip, yet it's a haven for wildlife. A favorite activity is boating on the lake, but ring ahead to check on the water level.

Walked the 17.5km Cockatoo Walk Trail on the weekend. Excellent trail and very clearly marked. Trail was closed but it seems that was only due to a few branches that were over the track. With a small amount of care these are very easily navigated around. After returning did the Cave Trail also that ended up joining the Dwerta Mai Trail that made it's way through the Boomerang Gouge. I never even knew that there was a gorge in the park. Very worth while small walk where you can explore the entrance to some small limestone caves. You get a sense that you are down south around Margaret River not north of the metropolitan area. There are many more trails there to explore also. I will be returning to do them all.

We were driving up to see the Pinnacles having set off from Perth. This was on the way so pulled in to see what it was all about - note the $15 entrance fee here covers same-day entry to The Pinnacles too.

Pleasant area for a walk, tea room. Toilets etc. Slightly disappointed with the ”information Centre” which was simply a shop with no discernible information about the park. We enjoyed the Koalas though! We spent around 45 minutes wandering around, nice to be out of the city…..

Disappointing Experience and False Advertising

I recently visited this park, excited for the hiking trails that were advertised, but it turned out to be a complete waste of time. One trail claimed to lead to a "haunted house," but when I got there, it was just a crumbling wall being held up by scaffolding. No haunted house, no attraction—just pure disappointment.

Honestly, I'd rather get a prostate exam from a dirty witch with 5-inch hangnails and Parkinson's than waste my time at this park again. If you're looking for a fun, engaging hike with worthwhile attractions, avoid this place at all costs. Total scam and a huge letdown. Save your time and energy for somewhere that actually delivers!

Lovely park - had not been there for ages so pleased to see it looked so good. Lots of wildlife, including a koala boardwalk and with lots of kangaroos basking in the sun. Wetlands around lake looked great, a bit disappointed that wetland walk was mostly out of bounds. Was pleasantly surprised it was so quiet (mid week) and so was very tranquil So close to Perth it is definitely worth a visit.

We visited the caves which we found well worth the money, then dined outdoors at the Inn and watched Kangaroos on the lawn and enjoyed the birds. It is also a great place for a picnic (gas bbq's supplied) and in the time of Covid 19 looks like a good retreat away from crowds. Many nice walks and plenty of space. Take a picnic and find your own little corner to watch nature.
