It's nice to look at the lakes, but more interesting if you read about them before you go. Find out about the stromatolites, which resemble some of the oldest lifeforms on Earth. I tried to find them but it had rained recently and the water levels were too high. Ask at the visitor's centre before you trek out to the... More

Rottnest Island is salty in the middle. Rotto's salt lakes are good to ride on a bicycle around. They are in the middle of the island. In fact, this could almost be described as a rite of passage for new visitors to Rotto. You can hire a bicycle, or bring your own. The lakes are salty and not for swimming..

Its right next to the airport strip and along a bike track. Little bit off the beaten track so can be a rocky ride, but really enjoyable getting out bush. We kind of got lost and may have cut across the salt lakes which wasn't great for our bikes, but was a lot of fun none the less.

The place is beautiful, the beaches are stunning and the wild life is very nice. It has really nice beaches were you can do snorkel and swimming. You need to have a mean of transport, in the island there is a bus but most of the people choose bike riding. You can go with your own bikes or hire for... More

I think due to the low water level something was rotting/decaying and the lakes smelt really bad. However if you are interested in bird life there was quite a few in the area.

This was the most wonderful day out, from finding out that by booking to go there on a Wednesday you got a discount on the price and not only that but you were picked up from your hotel and returned there after your trip. What value. The boat trip out there is worth the money on it's own. Once there... More

I went on a day trip but it is actually better to stay a night so that you can relax and enjoy the island. i joined the free walking tour that took us up to the lighthouse but the stories were about shipwrecks that happened around the island. no one bothered to explain that Rottnest used to be a prison...
