    Worth the visit!
Definitely worth a visit to Rottnest Island. Rent a bicycle if you can cycle! Set aside at least 4hrs to explore the place. It is beautiful! Wished I had spent more time there. They have nice restaurants around the ferry terminal.

Hop on hop off bus was okay
The staff was very friendly but the frequency of the hop on / hop off bus was not sufficient to see all the 19 points on the map in a single day (every 30 mins only). I ended up picking stops randomly throughout the map and felt that only the seal colony at the west end of the island was worth staying longer than 10-15 mins; the lighthouse could have been worth visiting as well but there weren't any guided tours at the time I got off the bus (9:30 am) which I was not aware of. More information about each stop in the main pamphlet would have been helpful to make the most out of the relatively pricey (25$) ticket.
Thanks very much for providing your feedback regarding the information on the bus stops which is helpful as we plan new publications. I hope that the Visitor Centre staff and volunteer guides would have been able to provide information regarding the best locations to focus on although it sounds as if you were on one of the first buses so may not have had too much time to ask for guidance. Thank you for visiting Rottnest Island.

    Great helpful staff
I only made a brief stop here outside with my rented bike. But there was staff who came out of the visitor centre to assist with my queries. The staff member suggested some good bicycle routes given the time constraints we had, and they took their time to explain some notable places to stop and look - which was highly appreciated.

    Fabulous day on Rottnest
Rottnest is a perfect place to spend a day, almost regardless of your personal interests. Whether it be walking, biking, birding, sitting or touring, Rottnest has it all. My only problem was we should have stayed overnight!

Worth a visit. Have a great day on Island.
There is a lot to see on the Island. Great peaches, history, Quakkas and great views to the Indian Ocean. We walked around 3 hours and we did see a lot. You can rent a bike and then you can see even more. There are several restaurants/cafes aroud Island so you can get food and drinks when you feel so. Very nice day on the Island.

Thanks for providing your feedback following your visit to Rottnest. I am sorry that you were not able to take advantage of all that the Island has to offer from the unique history to the wildlife and various tours and activities. I would always recommend planning ahead by referring to the Rottnest Island website or dropping into the Visitor Centre on arrival where staff will be able to offer great advice on what to do.

I don't even know where to begin. Let's start off with it's quite expensive to get there. But then you get there and have to organise a bus of you cant take a bike. Another $30 per person. Missed the first bus because the instructions to get there is so unclrar with no signs to guide you. Waited for the next bus and was so full we had to wait for the next one. The next ont pitched up, they struggled with the next bus at the bus stop 15 minutes before departure. On departure time they decided let's get a new one. Had to wait another 20 minutes for the next one. An hour and a half of our trip and haven't seen anything afraid to move from the bus stop. Busses were over crowded and the drivers tried to not leave anyone behind making the trips really unpleasant for everyone. We wanted to see so much more but sadly we were to afraid to get off else we might not get another bus.. And we decided to stop at least once and there you have it. 40 minute wait for a bus.

I had to move out our ferry because we were gonna miss it and had to pay an additional amount for it. Haven't even eaten or had a swim. Because of this expensive ridiculously poor service.

Not to mention the lack in Cleanliness at the cafes. No one walking around cleaning. The quoakas in the island at the start of the island look sick, losing their furr and my son was to afraid to even get close enough since some of them were quite aggressive towards the other qoukkas on the island.

In short. Family of three

$12 Parking
$190 ferry and park fees
$30 charged ferry fee after making changes
$80 for what they call a bus service
$6 for a small fizzy. Ranked up $50 for just something to eat. To walk to the main beach that is possibly the worst sight of this beautiful island.

The most expensive disappointing trip we have ever had.

There is way better things to do in Perth starting with not going to this island.

Thanks very much for your feedback and I am sorry to hear that you did not have a better experience during your visit to Rottnest. The last week in January is a particularly busy one on the Island and the bus service becomes very busy. There is a balance between the number of passengers able to buy tickets and the level of comfort for those travelling and I will share your comments with the operator of the bus service. As regards the quokkas, they are monitored by the Island rangers and are generally in very good health. However, visitors are urged not to touch or feed the quokkas as this can be detrimental to them.

The best thing about going to Rottnest is the ferry ride , comfortable and cool ,
Plan on spending a fortune for the most boring bus ride in your life , go for it because I surely wouldn’t, only thing to eat was dome and a $180 lunch later for bad food
What else is there to do ?
Quokka yep saw them = tick ✔️
The rest is just watching a beach after a beach after a beach
Ty won’t go back again

Thanks for your feedback and I am sorry you did not enjoy your visit to the Island. There is an array of different tours and activities available on Rottnest. Many can be booked in advance or on the day itself, but I would always recommend dropping by the Visitor Centre on arrival for some good tips.

Well what a absolute disaster was our families much anticipated 10 am ferry visit to Rottnest Island yesterday December 29th.
Your bus service was a bloody joke .
Myself and my wife paid something like $22 ( concession) up front and firstly stood in a very long queue for some time before finally hopping on the bus.
At every stop the tour host Greg persisted in telling people to squash up to the rear of the bus
( which they did ) however the bus was totally overcrowded.
The poor people who couldn't get a seat let alone any decent standing room and were continually told to push back further
Some were elderly, some had children.
Some had back packs that were hitting the faces of the seated people.
Greg's commentary continued, by saying "We are legally allowed to carry 86 people on this bus and we even had 90 people on it on one occasion,so "push back".
Also another comment he made was " if you push up close to each other you have less chance of falling over on the bends".
Honestly I could not beleive what I was witnessing or hearing.
There were so many people at the various stops that were disappointed because they weren't allowed on.
Myself and my wife along with others did not even attempt to get off because we would not of had a hope of getting back on. Therefore the only part of the island we set foot on was at the place that we got on your bus and got off at the same place
( Stop number 1)
Our Daughter and son in law with our 2 grandchildren could not buy a ticket on the island because the Bus ticket queue was so long and slow.
So they stood in another huge line and finally got push bikes around midday.
When I departed from your i heard many other people totally pissed off with the so called "Hop on hop off" sales pitch.
I voiced my disgust with Greg and said " Why would you Hop Off, because you wouldn't get back on"
I added, " it's wrong that you continued to tell people about the legal numbers you are allowed to carry when they are all bloody squashed up. It's morally wrong "
I am surprised that a fight did not break out on board with people getting very upset.

I intend to follow up the " Safety" aspect of the totally over crowded bus.

Thank you very much for your feedback, Graeme and I am sorry that your experience with the Island Explorer service was not more satisfactory. The week between Christmas and New Year is the busiest of the year on Rottnest and there is a balance between offering visitors the opportunity to see the outer Island and saying that there is no availability. Clearly, under no circumstances should the maximum capacity of the bus be exceeded. I will pass your comments on to the bus operator for their review and consideration and should you wish to contact them directly, you can do so at Pinnacle Travel Group.

Havn’t actually got to rotto yet, my review is directed to the call centre staff. Have spoken to probably four different staff past two days regarding my accommodation booking and so disappointed in how unhelpful, rushed and non caring they have all been.

We were so looking forward to visiting Rottnest Island but it was sadly disappointing.

We booked our ferry, planned to hire bikes on arrival and take a ride around the island. Backup plan was the coach tour if we couldn’t hire bikes.

Turns out the place was deluged with visitors and there were no bikes to be had. Nor did we get coach tickets because they couldn’t cope with the demand. We didn’t bother trying to get on the train.

Instead, we walked to Wadjemup Lighthouse and we were at least able to climb to the top (our tour guide, Alex, was very good). The hike was good but make sure you carry enough water to stay hydrated. The views along the way were beautiful, apparently there are amazing beaches but we didn’t see them.

Loved the quokkas, they’re cute, photogenic and several were obsessed with getting into the shops and dining areas. But the flies… so many flies. Buy a net at the store, you’re going to need it. It won’t get rid of them but it will help.

We had a quick bite at The Bakery. Good range of pies, sausages rolls, cakes etc. And we enjoyed what we had.

The moral of the story… book up well in advance if you want to hire a cycle (or hire at the port and take one over on the ferry). Book the train if you can.

If not, prepare to be disappointed. It felt really disorganised and like the owners want the numbers but haven’t really thought through managing those numbers and making sure there’s enough buses, cycles etc to go round. Instead we encountered lots of disappointed folks, and slightly harassed staff.

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry that your visit to Rottnest was not entirely satisfactory. The week of your visit was one of the very busiest that we have experienced outside the usual Christmas/New Year peak and is not typical. Also, the flies that you encountered are weather dependent and are the exception rather than the rule. However, your advice about planning ahead is spot on as bikes, bus and train tickets can all be booked online in advance, and this is very much recommended during the summer period.

The house we stayed in has amazing views and privacy in a pristine location, surely worth the steep price tag right?

Unfortunately the Rottnest Island Authority uses these attributes to neglect their accommodation and provides houses that would not rent for a fraction of the price elsewhere.

Our house was downright filthy, including window sills, light fittings/ switches, shower and toilet. The yard was strewn with asbestos pieces, glass and old roofing nails and the wooden verandah had a number of nail heads protruding, one would expect a decent clean-up following a re-roofing job.
My favourite was the over lenght shower curtain, which wallowed over the drain and constituted a slip hazard.

One of the bedrooms was so small, expect to keep your suitcases in the hallway if sharing. Most likely built as a childs' bedroom originally.

BBQ required a broom for jamming the knob, as otherwise it would not work.

What is the real tragedy here is that these issues have not been addressed for years, the maintenance team just hammers loose nails back into the same hole and waits for a repeat.
The window frames are covered in dust and debris and hadn't been cleaned in some time.

It would be easy to blame all these deficiencies on service contractors who appear to have next to no external oversight. Whilst i don't discount this aspect when it comes to cleaning, they also need to work with what is provided to them, such as kitchen chipboard shelving without laminate REALLY????

All up an incredible rip-off. The day-trippers get all the same amazing attributes that the island has to offer, so why should the overnight guests receive sub-standard accommodation as a trade-off?

Once the affordable family holiday, those days are long gone. What has remained is the Governments attitude to it's customers, with it's take it or leave it approach in a restricted market.
