Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is my favourite bay at Rotto - and that is a big call as so many bays are stunning. The basin provides safe swimming and calm waters. A small sandy beach area but usually there is little if any sea weed and there are change rooms and Toilet facilities that are currently being upgraded. Plus it is a short 10 minute walk from the main Settlements area.

Been over to Rotto a few times and normally always hire bikes and go round to Little Salmon Bay area. This time too the lovely walk past the lighthouse across Pinky Beach to the Basin. Literally feels like you're in a tropical island.
Was great fun walking out to the edge of one of the basins and jumping in for a bit of snorkelling.
We had an absolutely brilliant day and then on walk back to the ferry stopped in at the new beach club on Pink is Beach for a drink.

Amazing place to snorkel. A lot of tourists come here though since it's near to the ferries and the shopping mall. Nevertheless great spot and toilets nearby!

Short walk to The Basin from the ferry terminal. Hubby and I spent our afternoon at this beautiful beach. We took a sun shelter thankfully as it's quite hot at the beach. A beautiful beach with toilets and change facilities on the hill.
We set up to the far right on the beach and snorkelled right around to the Basin on the left side. Plenty of lovely fish to view and even at 31weeks pregnant managed to complete the short snorkel trail.
Highly recommend to everyone. We can't wait for our little man to arrive and make a family day of coming back here.

Every time me and my missus come to the Basin we set scour the beach and the shallows and find the best shells we can in terms of range, colour, size, pattern and many other factors that make them unique. We then each set up a shop and pretend sell them to kids on the beach for seaweed or dune grass (each strand of seaweed or grass is worth $1) and soon kids and other parents are setting up their own little shell shops. I used to do this as a child and being able to still do it as an adult fills me with nostalgic joy. Only at the Basin do I get such a strong feeling of a childhood reclaimed.

Wow! What a beautiful spot to stop and have a swim but we didn’t have our bathers with us so we just enjoyed watching people in the water swimming and snorkeling. The water is so clear! Toilets located right nearby. Definitely worth going here if on Rottnest Island.

Take a bike up to the basin and have a swim in the pristine water. It seems a safe swimming spot with well-protected areas to avoid going out too far.

Lots of memories of family summertime fun of long ago. A pity the ocean seems to have eroded the beach however by this summer the sand may all return.....

For someone who can’t ride a bicycle do they have tricycles on Rottnest Island

Thanks for your enquiry. There is quite a variety of accommodation choices on the Island from Hotels, to the Rottnest Lodge, Rottnest Island Authority Hostel, Holiday Units, Heritage Cottage, Campgrounds and Cabins. Rottnest is an Island so there is no access for Caravan Parks but if you bring over a tent the campgrounds are quite nice with recently renovated facilities and in very close proximity to one of the most beautiful beaches in Western Australia - The Basin. We look forward to welcoming you to the Island!

The campgrounds are quite nice and very popular with recently renovated facilities and in very close proximity to one of the most beautiful beaches in Western Australia - The Basin.
