Pristine. Saw octopus, sting ray, many fish. Get there early as becomes busy. Super spot. Great for young kids to old

Short walk to The Basin from the ferry terminal. Hubby and I spent our afternoon at this beautiful beach. We took a sun shelter thankfully as it's quite hot at the beach. A beautiful beach with toilets and change facilities on the hill. We set up to the far right on the beach and snorkelled right around to the Basin... More

We had a 6yo and 8yo and visited Rottnest when it was 35+ degrees - so finding a safe place to cool off was a must. The Basin offers a gorgeous inlet where you can swim safely, snorkel with kids, and with an active lifeguard, have extra piece of mind. There isn't a lot of shelter or shade, but it's... More

It's called The Basin because of a rock formation forming a sort of basin and in the middle is sand. You can go swimming, snorkelling, sun bathing and relaxing here. A must-visit!

Set up your tent or beach umbrella and spend the day at this wonderful cove. Walking distance from the pier, can get a little crowded, so make sure to get there early an set up at the far right to avoid crowds. Safe for children and calmer waters.

Went there for a day trip. Took a 5 min bike ride as it was the nearest but most crowded. Nothing to see. Just clear water few fishes lots of sea weed. it was just a good place for first timers. It had decent toilet, shower and water to drink to clean your foot from sandy beaches.

We are two families with children cycling and snorkeling our way around the island. We've had a dip at a few beaches along the way and ended up at The Basin. If yo don't have beach umbrellas or little beach tents, I recommend setting up at the outcrop of rocks on the right hand side towards the lighthouse and Pinky... More

A short bike ride or walk from Thomson Bay. Lovely sheltered bay with a large shallow area surrounded by reefs. Safe for snorkelling and there are change rooms and shelter up on the road, and plenty of (bike) parking! Great for kids.

I have been snorkeling at the basin for 50 years and nothing has changed I am pleased to say. Probably a few less fish but the Brim are still in abundance. Nice to see life savers now on duty and it can be rough if the swell is up.

The Basin is absolutely amazing. The water is so clean and the view was magnificent. Very worth while doing the bike ride to get there and have a swim. Magic! You may like to take some fly repellant though as there was so many flies when we were at Rottnest!
