Located in the spectacular Shoalwater Islands Marine Park, just 45 minutes south of Perth is Penguin Island- a beautiful, unspoilt nature reserve home to WA's largest colony of little penguin as well as dolphins, sea lions, stingrays, pelicans, ospreys and more. Visitors can see the penguins being fed by rangers at the Discovery Centre. It's also fantastic for swimming, snorkelling, having a picnic or just enjoying some of the best coastal scenery in Perth. Rockingham Wild Encounters operate an hourly ferry service to Penguin Island (it's only a 5 minute ride), glass bottom boat cruises of Shoalwater Bay and adventure style cruises to watch the local dolphins and explore more of the marine park. Sea Kayak Tours and Kite boarding Lessons are also available.

I couldn't see how Penguin Island could fail to satisfy; Sun, Sea, and Penguins, and it delivers in spades. We opted for the Dolphin, Sea Lion and Penguin cruise. I had a great time during my day on Penguin Island. I highly recommend visiting it for the day. Penguin Island is just stunning. The beaches are nice, the water is so blue. Paradise! The island is a national park. This helps protect the Little Penguin, which calls this island home. If you are looking for a break from sunny... More

We did the Dolphin and Sea Lion cruise. The tour lady was very informative and we did see both dolphins and sea lions. Quite pricey but was a nice "tourist" thing to do. Penguin Island itself was beautiful and its great to see such a smashing nature reserve. The "Little Penguins" show was entertaining and the lady who ran it... More

We travelled down from Cottesloe for the day to see what our options were on penguin island. As it was closing in on Nye, the queues for just getting a boat to the island were ridiculous. This is what happens when you go to a top attraction during peak time. We originally wanted to do the kayaking tour, but was... More

This is a lovely family informative place. We saw several penguins in the natural environment. Wear a sun hat and high factor sun cream . Take plenty of drinks with you as you can't buy any on the island .

Looking for something to do, then can recommend a day out at Penguin Island. Pack a picnic and bathers to make the most of your day. Strongly advise against crossing over using the Sandbar, as can be very dangerous and people have lost their lives due to the strong currents. On a positive note the discovery centre was a fabulous... More

Hi Wickedpinni, Thank you for your great review. Your points are about the dangers of crossing the sandbar correct. I hope you get the chance to visit... More

This is a great place to spend the day. A small Island packed with opportunities to explore the nesting grounds of terns as well as penguins. The penguin feeding is rather short (15 minutes) but filled with information about the islands history. It should be noted that visitors do not participate in the feeding. Walking tracks are available to explore... More

Take 5 mins ferry from Rockingham Jetty to Penguin Island. Some people just walk across the sandbar, but its quite dangerous. Join the penguin feeding time to see the cute penguin at Penguin Discovery Centre. Also can join the Wildlife Cruise to see seals, pelicans & dolphins. Great place for relaxing too. The ferry & cruise with schedules.
