Was meet at the car park and asked if we wanted a tour around the garden at the end told it had cost $5.00 each, (its not the cost but we should have been told before the tour). The garden was very nice but some of the things stated was a bit exaggerated and to be taken with a pick of salt. Bought some flour which was expensive which had to be sifted to get out impurities, honey a bit ordinary no taste of chestnut (no sample to try) and expensive If your not sure of foot or elderly not a place to go from the shed to the garden steep loose gravel…

We stayed here for two nights with friends on a cold and wet winters week but still enjoyed our stay here, with a couple of reservations. The house is quirky in design and accommodates 6 easily. It has the most magnificent views over the farm and valley with a huge patio on which to sit and enjoy a drink and the views at night, and especially the emus booming. The beds were all very comfortable and the house is well equipped to self cater, which we did on one night with a nice warm fire. John took us on a super tour of the farm where we learnt so much about the science of chestnut farming, absolutely fascinating and great fun. Nannup is an easy 15 minute drive with cafes and hotel etc for meals when required. On the down side, there was the most awful smell of sewerage permeating the living area and bathroom of the house which made it very unpleasant at times, especially as that was the area where we spent most of our time. Whilst not necessarily a criticism, we arrived at check in as required on a very wet and cold day and checked into a cold house where the fire had been set but not lit and it took quite a while to warm the house up. For the prices being charged here it would be a nice touch in the winter to have the fire going when guests check in to welcome them with a warm house. We very much enjoyed our experience deep in the south west in Nannup but in a competitive market, value needs to be clearly shown and with a few extra small touches this place could be really special but just letting a “house” with no small touches for the price lets it down. …

We went on a full farm tour with John, the amount of knowledge and information John has to offer about the property, chestnuts and horticulture in general is priceless. The soil, roots, trees, nuts, animals, machinery, processing, end products and everything in between he shares everything there is to know about the chestnut. He and his wife Linda were so friendly too and made our visit incredibly memorable. We will definitely be back to experience the farm-stay one day! PS: Get a bottle of the Chestnut Ale…

Off the beaten track hidden amongst the hills and forrests of Nannup, is Chestnut Brae. With views all round, birds, sheep, alpaca and friendly turkeys there is so much to see. The tour with Steve through the chestnut orchard is fascinating and educating. Delicious light lunch can be pre-ordered and all their produce including chestnut fed pork, can be bought on site. Easily accessible by standard car. Great for kids - don’t miss this one!…
