Going south from Kalbarri along Red Bluff Rd after 7km you will find the sign for Mushroom Rock. The car park is at the end of Mushroom Rd. At the car park begins the Mushroom Rock Nature Trail, a medium difficulty loop of about 1.5 km. Having already walked this trail a few years ago we have limited, as most visitors do, the visit to the stretch to and from Mushroom Rock. This short stretch is of medium-low difficulty and allows you to descend to the rocks facing the sea. Even though the high waves crashing on the rocks made it difficult to get close, we got great photos of Mushroom Rock. This mushroom-shaped rock is the result of water and wind erosion on the layered sandstone of these cliffs. Due to the rough sea and the strong wind we did not see any birds but, during the climb we met a kangaroo that fearful remained at a safe distance. A short but interesting visit.

This is a roughly 3km loop trail that you can start at Mushroom Rock or Rainbow Valley on the Kalbarri Coast. The trail skirts along the sea cliffs and through interest arid environs and grounds, it is not difficult but best to have good walking shoes and to follow guidance at times not getting too close to the cliffs over the sea.

You'll see interesting geology, very photogenic scenery and can get a fair hike in just a few minutes drive from Kalbarri town centre. The hike can be comfortably done in 60-75 minutes.

Nice trail but I still haven’t seen the mushroom. Rainbow Valley itself was pretty good and the walk takes you right down to the ocean rocks. Very nice way to spend a couple of hours.

Not sure what is so exciting about this place? Can come up with many similar places if willing to put a road and car part in and be creative. Maybe had been to too many similar places already today. Right next to Red Bluff.

A good 3km loop walk from the car park. Take you down to the rocky outcrop on ocean and up to the top of the cliff. Beautiful scenery and rock formations. Should not get lost with the posted signage.
Have a look at my photos.

Pathway down involves some areas of balance and is not accessible for those who require walking sticks or wheelchairs. Once down on the flat rocks mushroom rock is not so spectacular so best to get photos higher up. I loved the crashing waves through the crevices.

We did the combined Mushroom Rock - Rainbow Valley loop walk and must say it was probably our favourite coastal walk at Kalbarri. Given the quality of the competition, that is saying something. Be warned that the track is far rougher than say that to Island Rock and Natural Bridge - it is often uneven underfoot and requiring sturdy shoes and good balance! But it is very rewarding - Mushroom Rock itself is interesting enough if not spectacular but it made a nice backdrop to the surf surging over the rock platform below. The ancient landscape was probably what we found most interesting: the striated, indented cliffs with their red ochre colours, the odd, organic shaped rocks on the beach and the extraordinary fossilised 'worm tubes'.

A great trail along the coast looping around at Rainbow Valley. The trail involves some bush walking so be aware of the wildlife lurking around. Other parts of the trail involve climbing the rocky red landscape so ensure that you are wearing appropriate attire. The trail is well marked and easy to follow. Some information is provided along the way.
