Went in here as it was our first visit to Kalamunda. The ladies behind the desk appeared preoccupied and didn’t even acknowledge us. We looked around the shop and bought some art work but hoped for more interaction from the staff, like ‘are you from around here, or do you need an help’ etc, but not even a smile. Such a shame as we wanted to know about the history of the place and where to go on a Monday(the day we were there). Ended up having a local shop owner tell us.

Hello SJColeman1, I apologise sincerely for the length of time that it has taken me to respond to your review. I am also really sorry for the poor visitor experience that you had when you visited us in March. We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service and what you experienced definitely doesn't meet the standards we have set for ourselves. I have brought your poor experience to the attention of all our staff and volunteers as a reminder that our visitors are our reason for being here. I hope that you will not be put off and will give us a second chance and visit us again. Spring is a beautiful time in the Perth Hills!

A good place to start your exploration of this region. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful and there is an abundance of literature available about the region. The attached art exhibition gallery is well worth a wander through .

The Zig-Zag Cultural Centre is right in the center of Kalamunda, displaying local & on consignment art items, but also an impressive range of information brochures.
It provides workshop accommodation for the City of Kalamunda's resident artist.

Artists come for a specified stay with new people every year.

Even better, it is staffed with local community/ Council staff to give that personal advice, information & local maps for visitors.
Adjacent, is the local History Village which can be visited at small cost.

Again, adjacent there is a coffee shop / light luncheon facility that is clean & tidy.

Finally, there's a gift shop which allows local artisans providing their wares on a commission sale of works basis.

Having arrived in Kalamunda without a plan (other than hit some wineries and orchards, The lovely volunteer lady at the visitor centre pointed us in the right direction to spend the day. Leaflets are available for every kind of attraction in the area along with opening hours of these. Don't expect (like we did) that everything is open every day. I would suggest stopping here 1st and getting the goss on where to go in the area whether you have a day or longer to spend there. Plenty of local art on display and for sale. Nice joint and recommended pit stop.

This is really an information centre / gift shop, and very attractive too. There is a great range of gifts, I suspect mainly sourced from the local area. There are also maps, and information pamphlets, as w ell as two ladies eager to help with our enquires. A good drop-in place to visit.

Had a brief visit to teh Zig Zag Cafe for a function. The food was good and the local art on display was an interesting mix of styles and ability. Best part was that centres such as this are still thriving in semi-rural areas.

The Cultural Centre itself has a well-stocked gift shop plus brochures on local attractions. Adjacent is an area where changing art displays are on show. The History Village Precinct is well worth a visit. Visitors can see what life was like in the Kalamunda area during the 19th and 20th centuries. There is a schoolroom, post office, cottages, blacksmith's shop and machine shed. The Library has recently been renovated and has a spectacular stained glass feature window. If you visit on the first Saturday of the month, there is a bustling market just down the road.

Great little hub of things to do here - we came specifically for the glass art exhibition, which had some great pieces, well presented.
Great to learn about the local history, gifts, cafe etc.
