The staff at the Ningaloo Info centre mentioned this site and that there's 11km of tarmac and that the best part of the Canyon can be viewed along this section without doing the 4WD thing up to the Carter lookout. Glad we made the effort....More

even with just a 2WD you can drive up the bitumen section that extends high enough for good views, without needing to go onto the 4WD gravel portion

Thanks to Exmouth Safari Tours, Dave (a surveyor turned guide) explained the extensive geological formations and history - really old and clear too see in the layers.

Yes it does but not sure last time it flooded. But does flow during wet season depending on how much rain they have. It was dry wen we were there.

Check road condition with the Information Center, you don't need a map as its only one road in, lots of really good viewing spots as you drive along but it stops eventually at a viewpoint and then you turn around and drive... More
