- BradHong Kong, China181,056 contributionsUseful Visitor Centre if you need area tourism informationNingaloo Centre is a complex across the street from the RAC Holiday Park in the heart of Exmouth town centre. In addition to research & conference centres and the Exmouth library, you will find a tourism Visitor Centre, Cafe as well as the Ningaloo Aquarium & Discovery Centre. Opening hours are 8.30am to 4.30pm (weekdays) and 9am to 4.30 (weekends). We visited and found helpful tourism brochures around the Ningaloo coastal area and Cape Range National Park as well as some interesting merchandise. Staff on hand seemed very helpful as well. You can arrange tours here and there are clean toilets. Tickets are required for the aquarium & discovery centre.Visited August 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 September 2024
- Meander521345Calgary, Canada73 contributionsSmall but helpfulGoes over the building of the town by the USA and the assimilation with Australia. Gives a small over view of the cyclone that hit the area in the 90s. Aquarium is the highlight though with multiple tanks and the geology of the area on the floor above. Definitely worth a visitVisited January 2025Travelled as a coupleWritten 12 January 2025
- Chris BPerth, Australia34 contributions2 hr well spent with kids aged 4-13Family we went with had been twice previously and were pleasantly surprised by the new additions to some of the exhibits. We were very fortunate to chat with one of the girls working in the marine section who was supervising the tank clean. She gave our crew a very informative run down of all things happening in that main tank, especially everyone’s favourite Miley the lobster. She happily answered all our questions, including the commentary from our spellbound kids. Personally I really enjoyed the history of the special op’s behind enemy lines in WW2 and the record of the shipwrecked sailors. The ex-service bus, marine tanks, draw your own fish and reptile area were our kids’ favourites. Didn’t buy anything from the gift shop of the cafe. Did get some handy pamphlets and a map which I would recommend grabbing first day on your exmouth visit.Visited January 2025Travelled with familyWritten 23 January 2025

Very helpful staff, a good cafe and an interesting museum made this a great place to visit on our first afternoon in Exmouth (and again, later). My whale shark swim / snorkel boat trip having been cancelled due to high winds, the staff here set me up with another trip for the following day. The wind dropped, I swam three metres away from a whale shark. Thank you Ningaloo Centre staff.

This is a very clean and modern facility with helpful staff.
It's very easy to find (Exmouth is a small place), has plenty of car parking space and is close to several caravan/holiday parks.
It provides plenty of brochures and information about Ningaloo, Exmouth and Coral Bay, and all the various attractions and facilities. Bookings can be made through the Visitors Centre.
The Centre also has a cafe, souvenir store, equipment hire, clean toilets and shower facilities, a reading room and free wifi.
There is an exhibition/museum also (entry fee applies), but unfortunately I didn't have the time or opportunity to explore it.

A must visit and full of good facts and info as well and amazing corals close up. You can sit and watch the fish and the history of the shipwreck as well and the geology is not to be missed. Very educational. A good thing to do first .

Unfriendly girl at the information desk. We were looking for something to do for 2 half days in Exmouth that didn't involve getting in or on the water. We also said we had our own 4WD & what sort of drives & hikes we could do. Essentially she told us that everyone was here for the coastline, reef & sealife & was not helpful at all with any of the land based activities. She was even quite reluctant to hand us over the years off paper map she was showing us. We ended up having to do our own research to find things to do & ended up going to Cape Range National Park, Yardie Creek Shothole Gorge. That was lovely. This person at the visitor centre needs to be aware that not everyone is here to fork out big $ for tours, no wants to get in the water. Her suggestions on other activities would have been awesome.

Dropped in late afternoon for a quick look but ended up staying twice as long as expected. The whole building is very new and modern. Fish exhibits were great, especially the really big tank. The history of Exmouth regarding the Navy base was interesting, as was the aboriginal history. It is not as big as some eastern states aquariums and it didn't cost as much either, but is definitely worth a look for adults and kids. They also have a great little souvenir shop too.

I was really surprised because I'd expected a poky little museum tacked onto the side of a Tourist Info Centre handing out brochures for local tour operators. Instead, the Centre is very modern and comprises a small aquarium, museum, art gallery, experience centre for Cyclone Vance, reptile centre and a small area outlining local indigenous culture. The staff were helpful, passionate and informative. I wish I'd had more time.

What a great space I wish we had one in our coastal community! The museum is really interesting - it tells the story of Exmouth in an interactive way. The aquarium is also fantastic the big fish tank is beautiful. Great to learn a bit also about First Nations people of the region.

I must say, this is the best Visitor center I had ever visited.
The staff were friendly and knowledgeable. We had Christine helping us to plan all the activities of our Exmouth trip. Her attention to detail with great communication skills really made our trip so enjoyable. In summary, Christina knows all the tour very well and managed to match our needs to each activities. All 6 of us had the best time in Exmouth.
The center has a aquarium, art exhibition section and a discovery center. A cafe and a little retail shop. Best of all, they offer free wifi!
Definitely worth going and make sure you talk to one of their friendly staff about your activities in town.

The Ningaloo Centre is a warm welcome to the town. Situated at the entrance, the visitors centre has all the information one needs to enjoy the area. The aquarium is building and offers a small showcase of fish found on the reef as well as some new additions in reptiles. The cyclone room offers a scarily real experience of the actual experience of one, not for the faint hearted!

Do you have fresh water onsite for travellers to fill up with drinking water? Is there a hose to connect to the car? Looking for approx 100 litres.

All our gear was provided by the tour companies we went with. You could try one of them and see if they hired gear separate from a tour, but I've got no idea of the cost. Whale shark swim gave us free hire for the rest of the week, after we did the day tour.

Is Yardi Homestead caravan park open after cyclone olwyn?
Written 24 March 2015
Hi Karen,
Yes, Yardie Homestead Caravan Park is back open after Cyclone Olwyn, as is almost all the rest of Exmouth's accommodation, visitor facilities tour operators and general businesses. Cyclone Olwyn did create a mess, but not much significant damage. Most of it was downed trees which have now all been cleared away. The Cape Range National Park was reopened last Thursday, and the Ningaloo Reef came through with little to no coral damage. Whale sharks have been sighted and swum with in good numbers since the cyclone, so it's all business as usual.

Unfortunately there are no flights between Broome and Exmouth. All flights to and from Exmouth run through Perth.
