From start to finish this was an amazing experience.
From the pick up at the Caravan Park we were made to feel welcome and had the feeling this was going to be a good day.
A great crew who know their stuff, all had academic interests in Marine Life as well as a passion to share that knowledge.
The boat was well equipped with all the snorkelling gear needed for every passenger (including optical masks for spectacle wearers).
Morning tea was provided after the first snorkel which was a prelude to the main event.
The skipper was guided by a spotter plane to where the whale sharks were and the crew efficiently got us into the water (and out again) to experience the thrill of being at one with those beautiful creatures - not once but four times on our trip.
We were also able to see Manta Ray, Turtles, Dolphins and Dugongs whilst on the move.
The lunch spread was fit for a King (unlike other operators citing Covid 19 as an excuse to provide a meat roll) with ample supply of hot and cold drinks.
The afternoon snorkel was followed by a trip back in which we were frequently stopping to admire the Rays, Dolphins and schools of fish. The crew were taking photographs all day both in and out of the water and wait for this......we were sent a link to get access to ALL 396 photos taken on the day! All downloadable for FREE.
The Skipper told us earlier in the day that this season’s crew were the best he had ever worked with - how lucky were we!
Worth every penny AND MORE! Thank you for the most memorable day.

We had a fantastic day on/in the water with the Kings crew.
Very friendly, knowledgeable and professional crew and captain who was rightfully proud of his crew.
Right from the pick up where extra precautions of taking our temperature was good in these times.
The trip to the boat was entertaining and good driving skills were shown when some idiot tourist pulled out in front of us and the Bus driver handled the situation very well avoiding an accident, continuing on safely.
We snorkelled in a lagoon as a warm up, the crew assisted everyone, even taking special time out for nervous or first time snorkeling.
The Captain got us onto some special humpback whale watching, impressive displays of Tails, fin slapping to dual breaches.
We tracked a Whale Shark for a while but it didn’t want to play the game, it is very late in the season.
Delicious and nutritious lunch, plenty of refreshments available all day also.
The final drift snorkel of the day across “The Coral Garden” again revealed more of Ningaloo Reef, what a gem this World Heritage area is.
The final clean up and disinfecting of our equipment was reassuring and professional in these times.
They are a great informative, fun loving professional crew.
Thank you.

Considering the price you pay for this experience you really set your expectations high for the service delivery from the company. There are so many factors that can make your day amazing , such as the weather forecast and the activity of the wildlife you anticipate to see. These things are uncontrollable by the company.
However, the disappointing thing is the photo package inclusion. We did not bring our own devices so we relied on the photographer capturing our interactions with the whale sharks. We were always last to jump in the water and the photographer was always at the front of the line so she captured mainly the same people with the whale shark.
I felt like my partner and I had so many photo opportunities as individually we were at seperate times so close to the whale shark each the time when we had our dives, but the photographer was just never there.
It would be great if the crew showed a little more crowd control throughout the day and acknowledged that if they hadn’t captured a photo of you that you should become some kind of priority to try and capture a photo, then so on with the next person. But this was not the case. Even when we were on board there were so many other opportunities the photographer could have approached us and took happy snaps throughout the day to remember our experience.
It would be great moving forward if the company offered an option where the price was lower for the photos not to be included, you can then view the photos and choose to purchase them if you are lucky enough to get photos with the whale sharks.

Thank you for your feedback and the opportunity to respond. From reading the review it seems that your disappointment stemmed from our complimentary photo package. We do have a photographer onboard that takes photos both above and below the water throughout the day. A total of 262 images were provided to you from your tour date including photos of the Whale shark, Orca, Humpback Whales and Manta Rays encountered on the day plus a lovely couple shot of you and your partner on the boat. These images are provided as a free gift from Kings to our passengers as a memento of their day with us. We don’t prohibit passengers from bringing their own cameras on tour with them, leaving your camera behind for the day was a decision that was yours to make.
At the start of the day the photographer addresses the group with an introduction and briefing and lets people know that she is there to commemorate their day. We are aware that some people are not comfortable having their photo taken or would prefer privacy to enjoy their day so she lets the group know that if they would like a specific photo to either call her over, wave or gesture to her and she will capture the moment for them.
Photographers on board a Whale shark vessel are the hardest working crew in the water. They swim continuously between both groups, they hand the Whale shark over to each group guide, they even will pass a Whale shark over to another vessel awaiting their interaction if required. All while taking photos and possibly assisting struggling snorkellers in the water. After they finish their day they then go home and continue working to edit all of the images they have captured.
Throughout our history of over 30 years in operation, we have had many changes to our tour ‘extras’. From charging passengers for just video to selling video and images, to charging for photos on their own. The inclusion of our complimentary photo package has been widely praised by our passengers and many see it as an added bonus to the fact that they have just swum with the biggest fish in the ocean. For them that is the main purpose of their day, having a photo capturing the moment is the cherry on top.
As you stated, there are many factors that contribute to how amazing your day will be. So too there are many factors that can determine whether our photographer is able to get a photo of an individual passenger with a Whale shark, it is not an easy task. While our photographers do their very best to try and capture individual passengers in that moment, it is never guaranteed. Most participants are just thrilled at having been able to enjoy the encounter itself and to have done so safely. Your complaint in our view would have greater justification if we had charged you for a photo package with specific mention of capturing your moment with a Whale shark. While we don’t make any guarantees of capturing every passenger with a Whale shark, we do however endeavor to do just that. Just as our photographer mentions at the start of the day, if you felt that they were not around when you wanted your photo taken then perhaps just having a word to them or your guide during the day would have resulted in the very least a concerted effort to capture the image you were after. Our crew have done specific drops for those that did not get a good look at a Whale shark or they even position people by physically swimming them into the right spot so that they get the best vantage point. Your request would have been met with the same level of enthusiasm to provide the best possible experience to all our passengers. As mentioned they do their very best, however with everyone in wetsuits in the water and constantly moving it does make it hard to ensure that every individual has been captured at the very moment they are right next to the Whale shark.
I can understand how having an image captured of you and a Whale shark, after such an eventful day would have just been the crowning glory. However please don’t let that one thing tarnish the memories of your encounters, you swam with a Whale shark, viewed Humpback Whales breaching, swam with Manta Rays and even saw an Orca all on the same day. Those are experiences that I’m sure you’ll remember for some time to come and that many others can only dream about.

An absolute must do experience.
Being on and in the water with Kings, you are treated like royalty.
We were on the Swimming With Whalesharks expediece which was fantastic. The Skipper was guided to the swim points by a spotter plane and the crew managed the swim interaction perfectly. Their enthusiasm for their job was infectious!
We were treated to morning tea with fresh fruit and hot/cold drinks in ample supply.
Lunch was a banquet fit for a King!
The day after we were supplied with a link to access ALL 400 photo that Kelsy (Marine Biologist, photographer and real chatterbox) took on the trip.
Other tour operators were no way near with the quality of service according to fellow travellers at our caravan park.

Went out on a whale shark tour with my son, and a wonderful bunch of people from Kings on 14th April. The girls and guys running the tour were lovely, and so helpful. We went on a relaxing snorkel early on in the inner reef, before heading to the outer reef. My teen son snorkeled with a whale shark or two and had a fantastic experience to tell his Perth school mates after the holidays. I was sea sick for the first time in over 40 years - thanks to a bit of a swell left over from the recent cyclone seroja - but the team at Kings did a great job of looking after me.
I'd love to return, but will take a sea sick tablet first next time.

Thank you for your review. So glad to read that our crew did a fabulous job of looking after you during your period of seasickness. For those reading, we do recommend taking your seasickness medication the night before the tour as you go to bed and again on waking, as per directed. I hope you were still able to get in the water and explore the reef.

I took a day trip with Kings to swim with the world famous Whale sharks of the Ningaloo reef and have to say I was not disappointed with either Kings or the experience. The owner of the business skippered the boat and was knowledgeable and highly skilled at his job. We swam with many whalesharks and then saw a hump back whale breaching on the return, which was a totally unexpected bonus. Food, crew, whalesharks, all excellent.

We had a day with perfect weather - blue sky, calm water with only a light breeze- for our day excursion on the boat to snorkel in the coral lagoon off the west coast, followed by a total of 4 jumps into the ocean side outside the reef under the guidance of our cheerful, friendly and caring leader Alanah to swim alongside whale sharks (located by spotter planes) for 5 to 10 minutes each time. Absolutely spectacular and exhilarating!
After a delicious buffet lunch, we had another snorkel in the lagoon before being ferried to shore and taken back to Exmouth in the mini-bus.
We learned a lot about the history and environment of the area in addition to information about the creatures we saw under the sea.
All the crew members were very welcoming and helpful. All participants were supported, including the less fit and rather timid ones without any fuss.
There was a photographer with us (Noosh) who swam with us all and captured some amazing images. She sent us 300 pictures by email the next day from which to choose free downloads to keep. A lovely memento.
A highly recommended tour!

Thanks to Dane and the crew on Kings Reef tour. Amazing hospitality with outstanding food, equipment and knowledge. The day was fun, and the guys worked their butts off to give everyone on board an unbelievable experience. Shout out to Alannah who was so good with the oldies and the kids, and brought a smile to everyone’s faces. We swam with one whale shark four times, and they did everything possible to make this as epic as it was. Bucket list day with an amazing crew. Best on the reef!!

Hi, as an Eco Tourism Operator we believe in reducing our carbon footprint so we share a spotter plane. Sharing a plane also allows us to pool resources and keep a spotter plane up for longer should the whale sharks decide to sleep in on a particular day. It also reduces levels of noise pollution above the whale shark interaction zone. Between 300-500 individual Whale sharks visit Ningaloo Reef each year so in the peak season there are times where we find whale sharks without the assistance of a spotter plane at all. So while having eyes in the sky is definitely beneficial to our business we don't believe that having our own plane would offer any additional advantage to the experience at all. Our success rate of 100% for sightings April - July 2018 is testament to that.

How many people do you take on a trip? Curious about boat size and numbers.
Written 9 January 2019
Hi there, our purpose built vessel the Magellan is 20m in length. It is one of the largest vessels in the Whale shark fleet. Our Whale shark snorkel adventure tours take 20 swimmers onboard with room for two observers as well. The back deck is two thirds under cover with bench seating on both sides. Plenty of room to move around and you will always have a view of the turquoise waters of Ningaloo Reef. If you check out our website there are photos of the boat and some of the marine life that you may see on our tour. Otherwise you are more than welcome to give us a call and we can answer any other questions you may have.

We are booked in to do this on 2 July 2018 and I am a little concerned about coping with the water temperature at this time of year. If anyone has done this tour in July can you please advise if the water temp is extreme and hard to handle?
Written 1 June 2018
We went 28/5, and to my surprise, the water was about 23, actually warmer outside the reef where the whale sharks are, than inside.

Hi. My husband and I are both in our 60's. we swim regularly but I am not great at snorkelling. I am unsure if it would be too much for me. Can we come on the trip and not swim? would we still see the whale sharks. We have always wanted to do this trip.
Written 20 March 2017
Hi,
Thank you for your inquiry.
It is possible to come on board as an observer. You can go snorkelling if you want, but not with the whale shark. It is hard to say if you will see the whale shark from the boat. The boat can't get as close to the whale shark as the swimmers, but there is always a chance the whale shark will swim near the boat on own initiative.
Please contact us if you have any more questions.
Kind regards,
Kings

Hi guys,
All the comments from Trip Advisor are very positive. My husband & I will be in Exmouth from the start of June 2017 and we would like to swim with whale sharks. Can you please tell me how far in advance I need to book for a trip on about the 3rd of June please.
How many people do you take per trip? Other operators have very good reviews as well and I really have no idea which company to choose. We want the best possible experience as we tick this much anticipated adventure off our bucket list.
Regards,
Jean
Written 15 March 2017
Hi Jean
In order to avoid disappointment, we do recommend that you book at least 30 days in advance. Having said that weather conditions obviously play a part in how the tour will go. However, June is generally a great time of year to swim with the whalesharks so we would still recommend booking well in advance of your preferred date.
Would love to hear from you soon.
Best wishes

Written 2 July 2016
Hi, as far I can see around town all the whaleshark operators are still doing tours ( last year there were still whalesharks in the area until very late, possibly October so July is still in the peak time.) 20th July is after school holidays so slightly quieter. I understand Kings has one of the licenses for swimming with humpbacks, a new venture for Exmouth starting August so you should be OK . Just keep an eye on the wind/swell conditions if you have any leeway on dates
