A unique opportunity to view from platform on Hamelin Pool stromatolites, which are oldest and largest living fossils on earth. Stromatolites are considered "living fossils" , part of the Earth's evolutionary history. Well presented information about it on the boards.

The history and live of stromatolites are well explained on different information boards along the walk/ boardwalk! Make sure to go during lowtide to better view the living organisms! Worth the visit as opposed to the shellbeach.

See what David Attenborough came to see...a bunch of bacteria formed into what look like rocks over many thousands of years.

There is a great board walk and enough signage to make a very static growth interesting. An odd observation was fish in amongst the stromatolites that just hovered and showed no inclination to move; possibly the hyper saline water was the cause.

Do not visit the stromatolites for a visual spectacle as some previous reviews seem to have expected. These are understated ancient living systems, the oldest living organisms in the world at over 3 billion years of age. There are only 4 areas in the world...More

One of the attraction spot by Shark Bay, along the Hamelin Pool boardwalk, you can see areas are covered with microbial mats and stromatolites, a well spent of 15 minutes.

Looks like the stromatolite has been whether down because they do look like that anymore. Its like a flat reef. Still worth a gander but nothing to brag about.

An above the water boardwalk takes you over this fascinating place that is so rare to see. Flies try and cart you off, but hold your ground

It was very hot and the flies were really bad when we visited. I recommend getting a fly net to cover the face before going here. One walks along a board walk overlooking the stromatolites . There are good interpretative signs explaining what they are.
